so i'm looking at a 02 ws6 in texas and one of the problems the guy says is that on a hot day the vehicle shuts off like it's going in safe mode or something. however it does it before it overheats.

try finding a local forum and search the classifieds there, i bet you can find one that's closer and isn't broken. if you want the ws6 because it's "rare" then fine (assuming you buy one that doesn't already have major problems), but if you bought a regular trans am it's not hard at all to make the same power, and more than a stock ws6.
say you did buy the broke dick car, what are your plans for it?

WS6 rare? By the end of 4th gen production, they were building more WS6s than base Trans Ams. These cars are not even close to rare.....unless you're talking about a WS6 Formula.
It's so easy in fact, that you don't have to do anything at all. They make the same power stock.

Not possible.... here's why:
GM stopped production of the WS6 formula at the end of 2000. They were not built in '01 or '02. So if the seller is telling you that the car is an "original, factory WS6 Formula", he is lying to you. You can prove this by checking the RPOs on the SPID sticker (on the driver's door jamb, white sticker with a bunch of 3 digit codes). If the car is in fact an '02, and a Formula, it will not have the WS6 RPO. Only way it could be a real '02 WS6 is if the car is a Trans Am, not a Formula.
...or, he may have just added the WS6 hood, wheels, and badge to a regular Formula. Either way, the RPOs will tell the truth (just make sure the VIN on the sticker matches).
