Default Thinking of buying... have some Q's

Hi guys,
As you can all tell from my post count, I am very new here. I am looking at buying a new car (have had a ford truck, a dodge SRT-4, and a Jeep Wrangler), and it is time to try out a Chevy. I have found a 2001 Camaro SS with 70k miles on it, it is an auto, t-top, has an slp intake lid, and an slp air induction hood. I guess the questions I have are what is a good starting price for one in good condition. Also, what are some problems to look for, things I should be aware of, and what future problems may I run into? I have looked through the noob stickies so I was hoping by coming here and posting I could just get all my questions answered in one spot. Thanks for the opinions,
Eric.

Make sure the car drives good and straight.. get a carfax to make sure no acidents or salvage title. Make sure the tranny isnt slipping. Maintenance records etc.. The more you know the better. Bald tires usually means it was ragged on. depending on the driver. 70K isnt bad as far as mileage goes.. my 01 SS has 94K and runs like a champ. Just make sure the car was taken care of..

Depending on condition anywhere from 8-10K for price on that car.

Try to buy a car w/ no mods.A stock car usally is not ragged on or maybe a few simple bolt-ons is OK.8-10 grand for a 01-02 SS w/ 75,000 is good.If your close i will sell u a 2002 SS A4 w/33,850 t-top,CME and a bunch of other SLP options for $12,500 that runs high 11's.

i just bought my ss in the sig, exactly what you said except mine had a slowmaster weld-in and 86k miles. The biggest thing for me is a carfax, if it is clean make sure you check the car for any signs of repair as several cars ive had ago i bought with a clean car fax but it had a fender replaced with a crappy paint job. Id check all the fluids, this includes the oil (make sure its not milky or metal shavings) the coolant (for any signs of oil) and the transmission fluid (should be a red color.. not brown). Check the door jamb for the WU8 code to verify that its a real ss (z28s arnt worth as much). Id also check under the lip of the rear fenders for rust, thats the first place on these cars that do, as long as its not rotted out you should be fine. Do all the normal stuff, see if the car pulls hard to one side or not, make sure the tranny shifts well, ect. Also if it has any lights on you can get it checked for free at autozone (mine had a SES light on which turned out to be an AIR pump which i wasnt worried about)

on that note, id say anywere from $8-10,500 would be fair depending on what condition its in. best of luck, hope this nelps

So he should buy a stock car, unless it's YOUR car, in which case mods are ok?
