Default $900 for 20 extra hp WTF

I'm missing something here. Why is everyone upping their intakes to 90mm or 102mm intakes and TB's. You gain at a max of 25hp for anywhere from $700 to $1400. What's the big deal, thats like $28 a hp. Is this only for guys really trying to push everything out of their car?

It's for people trying to max out thier set up and have a nice budget. With a LS1/LS6 engine, the biggest gains are going to come from headers and a cam. After that you should look into a decent set of heads like some ported 243's or some AFR's or TFS's. After that the next option without tearing into the bottom end is to get a FAST intake manifold. Usually, the more power you make, the more $$$ it will cost to increase horsepower.

Also realize this is rwhp, not flywheel. I finally went to a fast from my LS6 after my H&C.

Agreed, my stock TB and intake are fine for now. If anything they would be ported and cleaned up when I did a H/C package, and I wouldn't ever H/C the car...plenty fun as it is now.

I htink my worst $ to HP gain was my lid and filter...ran me 120 bucks and I didnt feel much.

Is it worth doing with patriot stage II heads 59cc, a very slightly aggressive cam (haven't chosen yet), shaft rocker setup, and I'm hoping to go with a solid roller system. Its a ls1 engine with a 5 thousands hone and 6.200 rods...so very slightly bored and stroked. oh and +2cc flat-top pistons. All of this is in the works so its not set in stone yet.

For the record, $28 per horsepower really isn't bad.

I have read the line for sucessful performance items is at like $50-$60 per horsepower.

I mean think about it, that means $5600 will get you 200 HP. Sound like a supercharger kit to me.

Compare that to what some guys in the import world do. $300 for an air intake that is worth 3-5 HP.

ws6 stores sells a nice patriot head/cam kit,or check out TSP head/cam kit.stock rockers work fine with a comp trunion upgrade.you only need solid roller valve train when you deal with the really big cams.

Someone should check out the Turbo Kits from eBay... They just did an install in the Sept Car Craft mag... 600rwhp on a NA .030 over, iron SBC which before the install made around 350 hp.... All total with needed parts the $$$ count ran $1981.95.

BS, a good turbo will cost you 1500 bucks alone, not to mention the fuel pump, injectors.......

you could run that **** ebay turbo, but it is not going to last, and when it goes it could take out your motor too, so your choice

I didn't mean to hurt anyone's Feel Bads, but No BS... I read it just this afternoon... I picked up the mag yesterday... Pick up the mag and read it for yourself!
The set up was done with a Holly 850 DP carb. The twin T3/T4 hybrids were designed for a four-cylinder engine ...
Bolt on systems start at $1200..

I also didn't say there wasn't issues with the setups... all i was saying is that I saw it

I just threw it out there is all...

Pardon my ignorance ole' masterful one!

Theres a lot of time and money that goes into making a better part $900 for an intake that makes an extra 20 hp is worth it to a lot of people. Its also an appearance piece and makes a lot more sense than over priced wheels or overly expensive paint jobs.

They wouldn't be for sale if there wasn't demand for it so obviously to a lot of people its worth it, power isn't cheap now days.

The fast intakes look amazing really, if I got one it'd be for looks as much as the extra hp. Plus the people with ls6 intakes can get 30% of their money back by selling the stock, sounds good to me.

Just installed my patriot stage 2 5.3's 59cc heads last week and the trunion upgrade and love it! Picked up 51hp and 35 trq from those and ls6 intake with stock tb.
