Squealing WS6 LS1 engine.
Hello everyone. I have a 99 WS6 that has just started squealing from the engine. I removed all belts and the noise persists. The oil pressure is 40lbs and I didn't see any metal particles in the oil, on the dipstick anyway. The squeal gets louder as the engine revs up. I am not familiar enough with this engine to guess where to start. A friend did suggest maybe a lifter roller had locked up. Has anyone experienced this problem or could point me in the right direction. Thanks for all help.

By the way, for some reason I keep thinking it is a 99 but is actually a 98. The sounds seems to be coming from the front of the engine, top side it does seem, not left or right. I also forgot to mention that it idles a little rough, the rpm's don't change, but it acts more like I have installed a larger cam as for as the idle quality. It is a squeal sound instead of a ticking sound. It does squeal in a pattern though and not just one continous squeal.

I looked at a post on You Tube of a Camaro with the same sound, but not same problem. I was so hoping that was going to fix it, but no luck.... It was posted as (Z28 LS1 Squeal.) I will see if I can get a video of mine making the noise.

I had video of mine but I think I took it down a while ago on my 99 TA. In my case it was a rod bearing on the way out. It sounded just like a squeeling belt with the belt off (only one for me with AC removed). Hopefully it isn't the same thing for you fella and its just something inexpensive. But get a video up if you can.
Also there is a chance it could be you oil pump o-ring gasket, I have seen that before if it isn't your valvetrain. There was a TSB out on them but can't remember which GM vehicles they applied it too. Not that they would honor it now though, but that caused a squeeling sound.

Thats what I thought mine was and tore my topend apart, every checked fine. I'm not the only one who has experienced this on here. I have ran into another couple threads that have been rod bearings but the noise appears to be coming from the topend. Truthfully at first I thought it was a stuck lifter, but lucky me it wasn't lol.

The OP has only posted four times total in almost 5 years - and all of them were in this thread. So I think it highly unlikely he's going to respond to your question. This one needs to go to its rest.
