http://marylandspeed.com/slp-airbox-...045-p-246.html
the intake in this pic has that tube coming off of it...
I have a 2001 ss camaro A4, and my stock lid has no tube?
my intake part number is 12561184, is this an ls6 intake?
I can post a pic of my engine if that would help

that lid is for an AIR pump iirc, your car doesnt have one. only 98-00 have an air pump.
that is an ls6 intake manifold.
i bet that part used by the company is just a general picture. if not. i think they also come with a plug...or you can just plug it yourself...

That tube is in fact for AIR, but all years ('98-'02) had an AIR system. '00-'02 cars have that tube, while '98-'99 do not; but they all had AIR.
You are thinking of EGR being on the '98-'00 only, which is correct. But EGR has nothing to do with that tube.

Many people delete this when they do headers, for the following reasons:
- The system is just dead weight once the cats are deleted.
- The AIR check valves that connect to the exhaust manifolds will often start to make a fluttering sound when headers are installed, so deleting this system fixes that.
- You don't really need the system even if you keep the cats.
- Removing it cleans up the engine bay and saves weight, even if you don't have headers. It's also one less thing in your way for ease of plug changes, and one less exhaust connection point to leak.
Similar to cats, the AIR system is something that the car does not benefit from in any way, other than to reduce emissions on initial start. The only reason you would need to keep it is if you have strict emissions inspections in your region.
