a winter beater?
just a front wheel drive sedan like a grand prix or bonneville will work out pretty well, since theres millions of those out there im sure you can find one for a fair price.
I have an audi A4 thats a 1998, 1.8T, AWD, 133k miles, costed $2500 haha. Works great

Like the others said, get a winter beater. You can pick up a little front wheel drive 4 cylinder for $1500 or less. Start looking for one now so you'll have time to go over it and have it ready for winter.
Store that SS and keep it nice and rust free for the summertime.

Skinny wheels with skinny snow tires.....REAL snow tires (not the high performance all-season type). I use Blizzaks in a 225mm size on a 7.5" wide wheel. Add some extra weight in the trunk (about 100lbs or so, I use bags of gravel), plus try to keep the gas tank at least half full (for extra weight).
This has worked well for me.

Driven almost every winter since 2001 in an F-body... ran Conti-Extremes for 3 years then switched to Kumho ASX a year ago..they got around just fine last winter. Car can't get through the snow when its 3+ inches deep anyways so I just went with 'descent' all seasons and called it good.
I also put a 75lb sandbag in the rear seat floor area (directly behind the seats). You can put them in the far back but I had issues with the car spinning out on me just trying to walk down a hill at 5mph.
