Cool new toy 98 trans am(new pics added)

98 TRANS AM
I bought this car from a coworker who knows nothing about cars here is a rundown of what i know
THE BAD:
:The motor is locked up and the ear on the side of the block that the starter bolts to is broke off .
:The car has a salvage title. He said the motor blew a head gasket and the insurance company said it wasnt worth fixing so they totaled it
: Needs a new front bumper cover, he had a low aftermarket one that was broke all up
THE GOOD:
: It has a brand new trans in it (4l60E) (about 1500 miles)
: T tops with leather int
: factory chrome rims with Brand new BFG g force rubber(less than 500 miles)
: Factory silver still shines and no dents
: I only gave him 950 bucks for it
This is my first fbody car dont realy know what i want to do with it yet but would like to run high 6s in te 1/8th any suggestions?
will post pics tomarrow

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal for a "roller". Great starting point to build something nice since the body is in good shape minus the front clip.

Ummm, looks like a nice deal but there is more to the "salvage title" story than that. Since when do insurance companies pay for a seized up motor...? Unless it hydrolocked or something, then I can see him claiming it on his insurance. Either way, looks like a nice project.

Very nice find, as for the head gasket blowing an starter mount on block broken, seems as if it either really did blow a head gasket or it sucked in water tried to restart rod was broken, twisted an snapped starter off, also giving it the salvage title, But regardless id bought it for that forsure

Yeah i think it hydro locked.I checked the oil and it wasnt milky and the coolant level was fine, and i think it rained hard the night before it happened. He said he thought it blew a head gasket, but it didnt sound right to me. So i started talking him down. The guy i got it from was a coworker he barely knew how to put gas in it lol, but for 950 bucks ur right i stole it. I had rode in the car several times before it broke. He had just had the tranny rebuilt and put the new tires on it. I just couldnt walk away from it. Any body got a ls1 short block lol.

You got a nice price for a roller. It scares me to see late 4th Gens sitting in the yard like that with weeds growing around... starting to turn into those lost and forgotten 3rd generations laying around peoples yards on blocks. But, we are going on 10 years since the last 4th gen was made. Good luck getting the car back up and running again.

Looking alittle bit better. Been calling local salvage yards trying to find a good deal on a ls1 or LQ9.I just sprayed it off, going to wash it and polish rims tomarrow. What a ugly hood decal.LOL
