Default 107k miles too many miles to start modding?

I got a bone stock 00 camaro ss. I've been talking about doing some bolt ons and considering long term goals of H/C. Is 107k miles too many miles? The car was unmolested when I bought it [so he says]. When I first bought it and got on it a CLOUD of carbon blew out of the exhaust. So thats a good sign of an unmolested ls1.

Thanks

Not even close to having "too many" miles. The bottom-end of the LS1's are extremely durable. Some even use force induction setups on a stock internal LS1 (not highly recommended) without any issues. Mine has hit 115k and I'm just now in the process of upgrading the valvetrain. Your biggest concern would be more geared toward the longevity of your rear end or transmission. If your car is a manual, always have some money stored away for a rear end build, it will eventually go.

I did my cam swap around 130k. Passing 150k now.. Car has 350 or so 1/4 passes on it and daily drives a 50 mile commute rain, sleet or snow.

Just matters on how well it was maintained.

Wow, that's awesome

That's just an example of how durable the bottom-ends on these motors are. 107k isn't really too much if it's been maintained properly throughout it's life. Since you just bought it, I'd just do some general preventative maintenance just to be safe before I installed the heads and cam, but other than that, I'd definitely go ahead and buy a nice cam and a good set of heads and let it rip.

one of my z's had 90k when the guy I bought it from picked it up and started modding it soon after , so he started modding pretty close to your miles , today it is a full bolt on car that has run 11.9's ( for him but I was there) and has 230,000 miles and counting , never had a valve cover off as far as I know....
