Default Window motor swap

How hard would it be to swap out the window motor on my 99 trans am? Is it something I can do at home or would it take a dealership to do. Anybody, have instructions or parts that i would need thanx.

Do a search, someone posted the link to a write up awhile back. Pretty good one, it had pictures to guide you along. You have to drill out some rivets and then replace the rivets with screws. It looked do able, but a pain. But it is better than paying the $500.00 that the dealer wants to replace them.

I changed the driver side on my 98 T\A last fall it is a PITA to change.
It took me over 3 hours to get it in and working the rivets are easy its the bolts you have to use to put it back. The bolts have to be very short and if I remember right two of them you have to take the regulator apart (carefull it is spring loaded) and put the bolts thru and put the regulator back together
with the bolts in place. But it can be done and it beats dealerships 65$ an hour labor rate.

I've done mine twice already. It's not too bad the second time around! My suggestion is when you do the swap get the Siemens brand (the stock replacement lasted less than 3 months). As stated above, there is a very good "How To" posted somewhere.

I just changed my winodw motor the other day. I used this site http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html, excellent site by the way. I thought it would be hard but it wasnt too bad. And like 98Z-6Speed said, it is a lot better than paying the dearlership. Hope this helps

Window is easy if you use the listed website on the previous post, now changing out the headlight gears. that was a PITA

Did anyone have to remove the window regulator to replace the window motor?

You can, but thats just more rivets to drill out if the motor dies again. Much easier to use screws.
