Default How much oil do you run in ls1 and how much is too much?

Just did my oil change with 6 quarts and on the dipstick it reads a little bit higher then the full mark but not by much... should i drain a little out?

Reading the forum i read of some people using 5.5 quarts all the way to 7 qts

5.5 never seems to be enough to reach the full mark. I usually do 5.75-6, and sometimes it overshoots the mark by a little. I don't worry about it.

Capacity says 5.5, I run 6. A little above the full line is fine, If it starts coming out of the valve covers its too much.

6 here as well. If it's a little above dip stick, it's fine.

I use the bigger mobil oil filter (M1-206 if i recall correctly) with 6 quarts of oil, and it is perfectly full every time.
But as for you, I would not worry about it. Run the bigger filter next time though, and you really wont have to worry about it.

My ls2 calls for 6.5 quarts with filter, I just dump in a full 7 quarts. Half a quart more is not enough to cause problems, and it's always good to have a little extra oil for hard cornering or in case you burn off some.

That's what I do - until this time. Went to the parts counter and asked for a Wix filter for 2002 Silverado 5.3 just like always, and this time he came back with the short filter. Double checked and he said the short filter was the only part # they showed

I have a 2001 z28 and I use 6 quarts of castrol full synthetic with a ac delco oil filter and don't have a problem I would always want a bit more than what it needs then less then what it needs. From what I have read you really don't have to worry about hurting anything until like 7 which is a lot more than what you need for your car.

I've been using 6 qts as long as I've had my car, and a K&N filter, simply because it has a nut on the bottom to loosen it with.

+1 for 6 quarts and I always end up a tad over the fill line.

Put a tad over 5.5 and you should hit the fill line on the dot, then add the rest after driving it for a while. I always top off oil filter before putting the new one in on any of my performance cars. Probably makes no difference but it does in my head lol
