hey guys, hope all is well. I am getting ready to send my ls1 block off to be hot tanked in the next week or so. Therefore, I need to start planning my build. Im having trouble figuring out where to go with what parts and decided to look to you guys bc this is my first ls build. I dont have an unlimited budget on parts so the cheaper the better but I do have goals and do know this is not a 2000 dollar project.

The goal is 500 to 600 streetable hp. Anywhere in the broad gap would make me smile. Also a descent lope and idle would be nice, I dont want a monotone rumble.

I have looked into the 383 stroker builds, but looks like many people say it would be better to spend money on good heads and get the same results. What do you think?

IMHOP you would be better off getting a 408 short block. heads and cam and you would definitely be in the 500-600 range. to get the ls1 machined and put in stock rotating assembly or even 383 rotating assembly would cost you almost as much to just do a 408. but if your hell bent on reusing your ls1 i would go 383 and you still need a good cam and heads, exhaust and even then youll be in the 450 to 500 range depending on how big of a cam you get.

Im pretty sure everyone is gonna say about the same thing. The only way to get a ls1 into the 500-600hp range you are either gonna have to spray the **** out of it or go FI

FI means forced induction like turbo or supercharger. TSP has a good 383 rotating assembly for a decent price, but if you want the best, in my opinion the lunati is probably it

Sorry guess I shound have been more clear about the FI. I love the idea of a 383 stroker but its just not gonna get you to 500-600hp. You gotta go more displacement, nitrous, or forced induction.

check Texas Speed for heads and rotating prices.the more cubes you have the more power you can make.look at some TSP PRC heads,maybe their 227 heads.get a custom cam from Pat-G.you will need a fast 102 intake with a 4 bolt TB.a 383 can make 500 rwhp,but a 402+ ls2 will make more.take your time and ask alot of questions before you buy any thing.

Speak to a sponsor or an engine builder. This is more of a indepth discussion rather then just general recommondation. Especially when spending multi-thousands of dollars.
