Wtf happened!?! Oil change gone wrong!
Ok changed the oil in the camaro, penzoil plat. 10w30. Put in 5.5qt and used a mobile one filter. The only thing i did different was put oil in the filter...(wish i never did). The car sat overnight. Got up this morning, checked dipstick and oil was just at the top of the hash marks. Started it up hear alot of noise (sounded like air in the cooling system, obviously not.) Then it started pissing oil out from the filter i think, i just shut the car off. I couldnt get under the car and i couldnt mess with it because i was heading to work. What the hell did i do? Did the seal on the filter rupture or do i have bigger problems? Thanks in advance.

I did see the oil coming out from the filter area. I did tighten the plug and filter to spec so it was all tight. I hope it was the seal on the filter. This is going to drive me nuts all day.

Opsu, i didnt break it when installing the ls6 intake, and its been fine since i changed it out.
There might still be the old gasket from the old filter still on, i need to check on that. Would that still explain the sound?

i agree its most likely the old gasket from the old filter seem an oil change place blow 3 motors cause workers there left the old gasket on the block ane never checked you can acually see the oil trail till the car blew up lol anyways priming the filter is what you should do not saying fill it up just enough to prime the element and put alittle oil on the rubber gasket to help it from sticking to the block as for the sound idk but maybe it was the oil spraying or when it hit the exhaust

The noise was like when you get alot of air bubbles in you coolent. The gargleing (spelling?) Sound. If i didnt hear the sound i would have left it and went back inside to only find a seized up block...

well trace down the leak first clean the area up then run it see if any leaks and then if noise still exists trace it down if possible have someone in the car that you can have them kill the car if you need to right away other than that i dont know what it is but thats what i would do

I am with this guy. I did this once, and only once, with my Explorer. changed the oil and filter, filled it up, started it up to check it and lone and behold... my four year old said "daddy, your truck is peeing". Damn it what a mess to clean up. hope you caught it before it spewed too much oil out.

I appreciate the wisdom/advice. I am hopeing a double gasket is all it is. I will update later, i get out of work at 2pm and wont be able to touch the car til 3pm ish.
As for loosing too much oil, i guess maybe a quart. It wasnt running long, 2 min-3min tops

Exact same thing happened to me OP.
It was the first oil change I did after buying the car. Whoever did it last time didn't run oil on the rubber gasket of the old oil filter to lube it and it got stuck there and I didn't realize it so we put the new one on on top of it and it didn't seat properly which ended up the same result as you. Shut the car off immediately, cleaned up, had to go out and spend another $30 and everything was fine.
It's fine to add oil to the new filter, pretty sure its recommended.

I will agree with double gaskets, i have never done it in my 7 years of being a mechanic but have seen it and usually is doesent turn out so swell. as mine is leaking and wet all around the filter, i have a oil filter adaptor housing leaking. couple things to check. i always prime filters no matter what, especially on diesel engines. never want a dry start. unless the filter is sideways lol
my pops always stressed to check the gasket on the old filter to see if its there.

2-3 min it kinda long...but I'd think you should be alright. I started mine and after 10-15 seconds seeing the oil pressure guage sit at 0 and hearing it spraying out I immediately turned the car off.

YOU NEED TO CHECK THE OLD FILTER AND SEE IF THE OLD SEAL IS STILL ON IT.I have seen it happen a bunch of times when someone is not paying attention, after 20 plus years turning a wrench.you most likely just double gasketed the filter ,will not seal no matter how much you try. good luck
