Default Race car project.

Hey guys,

i got offered a really good price on a 96 lt1.. Im going to take up the offer and get the car in a week or so. I want to do a ls1 swap. The car im getting does not have an engine or a trans in it so it is one less thing i half to do. This will also be a gutted interior with a cage. I know of a few things i need to get so far.

LS1
T56 trans
Tubular K member
wiring harness
Clutch setup
radiator
ford 9in rear
misc hoses etc..

Id like to be turbo'd later on with 600-700rwhp.

Any knowledge on anything else needed, locations for the best prices etc.. Also if any one has any parts let me know. Im in Southern Maryland.

Thanks guys!

honestly just dont buy that car. for the price and labor of everything you need you are better off buying a LS equipped vehicle. i bought my first camaro ss for 8 grand, and just bought my current car a 2000 trans am with 86k miles that came with an aggressive cam setup and 3800 stall and upgraded rear end for under 6 grand. deals are out there just got to be smart about it.

Just my .02 but I tend to agree with usnfenix. If you want to say "I built it" that's cool too (been there).
If its a track only car, why the stick?
If it were me - LQ4/9 (for 'future boost') and a TH400

Hell do what everybody else is doing. A stock 5.3 change the head studs and put like 15psi to it with a th400 of course.

Go with something else than the LS1. Now days you can find great deals on LQ4s and LQ9s and youll be pushing over 700HP with ease once you go boost.

Get the 5.3 liter you won't be sorry. The LQ9 is the way to go if you're going N/A. If you're looking at boost. Get the 5.3 hands down the best option.

I assume you are talking about building a car for a road course. If you are going to turbo then I would suggest that you upgrade the transmission. The T56 even with the upgraded bits will have a hard time with 700 rwhp. Oiling and cooling are going to be high on the list also.
