Default another i have $4000-$4500 to spend thread

i have been cruising these boards for some time wishing and hoping. i've done some small stuff to my 02 35th LE but nothing much. now i'm selling my motorcycle and doing some serious mods.

Mods so far:
SLP lid.
rear sway bar
subframe connectors
flowmaster weld in (will be doing a cutout)
skip shift eliminator

this is a M6 2002 car and 4000-4500 bucks to spend.

i want to do heads and cam plus supporting mods. i want to get pat g to spec me a custom cam but i want to get heads and other supporting mods decided on before filling out his form.

i havn't posted on this board in at least a year and have forgotten a lot of the knowledge that i had gained.

for those who are still reading and/or care
this is a street/show car that i plan to keep for a very very long time. the heads/cam selection needs to be able to last a long time. the car only has 21k miles on it, and i plan to keep it even after this ls1 is long gone.

my list so far:
texas speed SS headers 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 plus their y pipe and a 3" electric cutout.
port tb
cold air if needed
underdrive pully
new plugs, wires, and motor mounts with headers install
cam
heads (my biggest concern right now)
clutch?
9"? am i spending all my money here?
lca's with relocation brackets, other suspension?
dyno tune

i don't know if i should risk it on the stock rear?

what would you do?

EDIT: forgot to mention this car will probably never see a track but i don't mind if it is a little rough around the edges. also would love some great cam sound to accompany a pretty flat torque curve.

Skip the rear..

toque arm with relocation
LCA with relocation
panhard
pick your springs (i like BMR) and whatever shocks you want to budget for.. t
thats all you need for suspension

TSP 1 7/8

high pressure oil pump
ls2 timing chain
cam

Clutch
tick adjustable master
speed bleeder
new slave

If you aren't doing the install... That is your budget almost (obviously I just hit the big things).. If you are doing the install.. I'd look for a set of used PRC heads.. 5.3 2.5s make for some killer mid range. Or even send your heads off to AI/TEA.

hey lemons i remember you. you helped me a couple times in the past

i will be doing the install myself (with the help of 2 mechanic friends who get paid in coors light). probably don't need to deduct for the coors light.

only labor costs are tune and maybe cutout welds.

i really want to do heads with this series of installs if at all possible but i know next to nothing about what to get. been reading like a mad man the last couple days.

i'm really glad you think i can get away with babying my stock rear. that alone was going to eat up my budget. also if i does break its much easier to convince the wife to let me get one

just to get it out of the way my boltons are going to be $1450 $1250 if i skip the ram air and do the free ram air. so that leaves me with around 2700 to spend if you allow for shipping. damn i though i could finish it for 4500 bucks lololol

I recognized the name, just didn't recall why.

Since you are doing the install, pick up a set of heads... You will be limited to used though.. Head bolts/gaskets/fluids/etc eat up a budget quick.
Like I said.. Look into a set of PRC heads (most budget friendly while getting a nice head still) or send yours off to Ai/tea (more money but a much nicer head).

Yea just take it easy and no hard DR launches and you *should* be ok.

If you end up spending more money on a set of heads.. My vote goes for AFR 205s (1600-1900$ used).

what about the prc stage 1 and 2 ls6 packages from tsp? heads and cam for under 2 grand. sounds good to me but then again i know little compared to you guys.

also what type of hp numbers are we talking about with 243s vs afr 205s etc? if its gonna be an extra grand for 20 hp i'll save my $ lol.

also have a buddy with 8XX heads he says they are the same as 243 heads and is selling them cheap. also thought about junk yarding some 243s then getting them ported.

the TSP ls6 ported heads are good, the ported 5.3 heads add a little compression. .the prc 215 head is better.also consider some trick flow 220 heads.

853 are not the same as 243 heads, they are the same as 241 (LS1) heads. Of the 3, ideally you want a set of ported 243 (LS6) heads.

If you are not even looking to be drag racing, no point in getting real fancy heads. Check out that PRC LS6 heads/cam package you mentioned.

Only things I would change would be the cam and headers.

Buy the best headers you can afford. I bought SLP headers and swapped to Kooks years later after scrapping everything. The SLP headers were a nightmare to get in as the Kooks slid in perfectly.

The cam is personal preference. I really don't like winding my car upto 6800 to make power and run a smaller 228/230 .581 .585. I would talk with TSP and tell them your goals.

you will need 3.73 or better to work with a ms3 cam.

You will see some mid range gains but the peak power will be close to a 5-9Rwhp difference between the two.

Since when?

If you want the best... Go grab a set of ARHs.

TSP and Kooks are almost identical, merge spike and all.

SLP is garbage with headers.

Some 226 cams carry all the way to 6500 also, it is all in the specs.

some things that aren't on the list that i'm a bit worried about:
oil pump
fuel pump and injectors
rockers?

i want to do this part of the build right.

also should i be concerned that all i can find is 91 octane pump gas? for some reason i can't find 93 in Oklahoma.

Quick Reply: another i have $4000-$4500 to spend thread
