Default Oil Pump Seal

Is it a good idea to change the oil pump seal when doing a cam change on a 2001 LS1 ?

If your only doing a cam swap you will need the following...

Timing cover gasket
Timing cover seal
Water pump gaskets
Crank pulley bolt

If your changing oil pumps always replace the O ring. If your going to leave the pump alone don't worry about the O ring.

Who make these 1 piece pumps ? Haven't seen one yet. Are you planning to replace the pump?

I've have had good luck with both Melling and TSP ported LS6 pumps.

Sorry , I watched a video , may have been for older engines , it was to stop the problem of the oil pick-up tube vibraiting out of the pump.

I read where a guy loosens the bolt and wraps a wire around it before removal . I have .035 stainless welding wire .

Do you mean Melling M295 pump ? If so I used one in my dads 01 yukon (LM7 5.3L) when we rebuilt it a few years ago... Almost 100,000 mile on that pump and it still makes 55psi @ hot idle and 75 psi @ wide open throttle.

Yes , Melling M295 , I thought that since that I was doing a cam change , why not change the oil pump at the same time . I am also installing a new timing chain .
