Default Are 4.10 gears helping me?

Are 4.10 gears helping me. I have a 2000 camaro ss, w/ only mods being velocity stack, slp airlid, diablosport programmer and 4.10 gears. best et is 14.01 at 100mph. My brother tells me that those gears are making me slower and have a bad ET. I am in El Paso. barometer is always at around 29 something. I have heard we are at 5500+ft of altitude. I have also a service engine soon light retated to a missing evap purge solenoid that goes on top of the engine. I recently found the cut wires. Do you guys think this is slowing me down at top end with this service engine soon light on all the time. Any help I woul greatly appreciate it. Future mods are cut out and a converter stall. I anyone wants to know more about car go to thread "ARE THESE TIMES RIGHT on 5/21/2004

You should be faster than that, if you are on street tires it is probably not helping you. Get some sticky tires under the car and you will do much better.

I am currently trying to decide between a converter and slicks and I don't know which would give me more in the quarter mile, I guess both but people say I would tear my rear end so it will have to one or the other. My current Zr dunlop tires grip good with a good burnout but I do not know if a converter would be too much spin and not do me any good on my take off

All other ls1 are not running so good either, but there was one 2002 z28 also a4 with only an airlid and I tied him. He said supposedly that thats all he had but I can't be sure. another ls1 bone stock ran 14.1 and another M6 with cut out and headers beat me by 3/4 car.

well then you answered part of your question. it sounds like your track is shitty and nobody runs that good. you have to keep in mind everything is relative. if everyone was running mid 13's stock and your the only one running 14.1 then you have a problem, but thats not the case. get the new TC, get rid of the DTC, and practice.

The gears should be helping you.. I have 4.10s in mine and it took off a good 3 to 4 tenths off of my time.. basicaly my only mods are headers and gears and Im running a pretty consistant 12.7 on DRs

I think they could be too much gear for you... you're driving an A4 with a stock converter and stock cam/heads, yet you have 4.10 gears? I think you need to step down to at least a 3.73... and definitely get a new converter. You should have done the converter before the gears, but since you didn't, I say just swap those gears for a 3 series gear (either 3.42s or 3.73s) then go with a converter.

I'm in Albuquerque at 5500 ft. Most stock LS1's up here are in the mid 14's. The altitude really kills power. I got about 3 to 4 tenths with the 4.10s though.

Yeah this altitude really bites. We are talkin' 45-60 HP loss on a 300 hp car. You practically have to run a cam and long tubes to get to where the car is supposed to run stock. Only good thing is that everyone you compete with has to live with it also.

BTW if you are looking up barometric pressure from a weather source like the web or the local news, it is corrected for altitude, which means the number you are looking at is probably higher than it actually is. You have to use a hand held unit or calculate the DA from your altitude and the conditions published.
