Tuning a stock setup? Cam Upgrade?
I've got a 2002 SS Camaro that's pretty much stock other than some headers. I'm wanting to do a little tuning to it and maybe start looking at putting a cam in it, but didn't know what I could do for a cam? I'm wanting to keep the stock heads because I don't have enough money to change them right now. What kind of hand held tuners would anyone recommend? Or should I just try to find a professional to do it? What kind of cam upgrade can I do in a stock engine?

When picking a cam the most important thing is to be honest with yourself on how you'll use the car and what drivability sacrifices you're willing to make. After you can answer those questions contact some of the sponsors on here and have them help you pick what you need. Also is your car an A4 or M6?

I think you're putting the cart before the horse.
Is the car A4 or M6 ?
If its auto first add a nice size torque converter maybe 3200-4000 stall. You'll need one for any decent sized cam
Besides that I would add an off-road y-pipe with an electric cutout (My car gained 13 rwhp with the cutout open vs closed)
When I was cam shopping (never pulled the trigger) I was sold on the TR230. Lots of great numbers with stock heads. You already have ls6 manifold so you're good to go.... Get it custom tuned and roll out

It's an A4. It had a 4200 stall in it when I bought it, but I was having to do 3,000 RPMs to get to 30MPH going up a hill with it. I put the stock stall converter back in temporarily. It's a daily driver that will have just a couple trips to the track through the year. I've got PaceSetter Long tube headers and a 3 inch Y pipe with the 3 inch SLP loudmouth exhaust (no cats and no muffler) and I just don't have ANY deep rumble or 'lope' to the sound of it. The main reason for the cam thinking is just a better sounding beast!

What brand of converter was it, sounds like it was a cheap one. With a A4 you'll want a GOOD 3500-4000rpm converter before you put a cam in. Look into getting a Yank, Circle D, or Vigilante converter, they wont give you the same drivability problems as whatever converter your car have when you bought it and will be much "tighter" at low throttle input making the car drive almost like a stock converter around town.
