Default engine/blower

Other than choice, why do we do all the engine work, when a blower will do the same thing? '02 Camaro SS - 417.5 RWHP/413.9 TORQUE (Vortech)- no other modifications except sub-frame connectors. May have to solve wheel hop. Thanks

for the most part, motor work is more reliable (when done right of course)....we have an extremely high compression ratio (i think 10.25 or so to 1) so we are limited to VERY low boost. forced induction is a little tough to tune, and get to run reliably. if thats not enough, have you seen the price of an LS1 blower kit???? $4000-7000 bucks to set up your ls1 with a blower. you can easily get a decent head and cam set up for much less...

i agree.

but then again, when you price out h/c and full bolt ons your almost in the same price range as a blower

For one thing that's a lot of extra crap in your engine bay. For another thing, most people (including myself) do the internal mods one step at a time as they can afford them instead of shelling out $6000 all at once for a supercharger. Instead it's $700 for a cam, $700 for headers, etc, and you get to enjoy the performance each step along the way.

its easier to do simple bolt ons, and go step by step, instead of going FI and being done with it.

Im doing the opposite, as a forced induction setup is better overall, for drivability, and reliability, imho.

its just most people can't afford to drop $7000+ on a complete forced induction setup, amd most don't have the paitence/skills to fabricate their own setup for a lot less.

and since you didn't mention 12 bolt....

you could easily see 430-450 with a serious heads/cam/headers/exhaust/all the goodies...and stil below the pricerange of a blower type product that will blow out the seals on your head gaskets and blow up your non forged motor....
all motor is really hard to beat..... a 400 hp al motor will beat a 400hp blower every time.

easiest said....
me vs cobra...
motor vs supercharger
similar hp#'s

it depends on how you want to price it out. you can easily get a h/c bolt on setup to cost 4-5k.

true but you could easily end up paying 65K for a new vette if you're willing to let the salesman bend you far enough over his desk...anything CAN be expensive if your willing to pay for it.

I think it's personal preference...

But also a blower/headers combo will make more power than a heads/cam/headers combo.

Examples:

Car A (01 z, m6)
lid
filter
catback/cutout
headers
orp
heads
cam
underdrive pulley
programming
plugs
wires
~425rwhp and still streetable and not a huge cam

Car A (01 z, m6)
Vortech V9 supercharger kit with aftercooler and 9psi setup
Headers
ORP
catback/cutout
Programming
Adequate fuel
~475-525rwhp

But the blower guy will have more money into it I would think, since a Vortech kit is like #6k.

Because LS1s don't require power adders to go fast

I have seen many 11 second and a good number of 10 second LS1 cars that run all motor, that aren't stripped out completley either

for me it's a question of $$$

I'm looking to spend a total of $3k to get about 400HP into a fiero, and the BEST option I have is a LS1 with cams, intake, and headers. If money weren't an option, I'd be going for a SC'd 3800- it'll run me about $6-8k but I could probably get 475HP out of that setup with tuning
