A Site every LS1 owner should see!
I hope Im not wrong when I say that we all want to know as much as we can about the incredible engine that glues us to our seats, and puts a smile on our faces. Well for everyone who does here is a great site to learn about how the LS1 was developed, and how it isnt a small block v8, like we think it is. Technically Chevy coined the term "mid displacement V8" just for our motor.
LS1 Development/Design
I cant take credit for this link. I got it from one of JRP's posts.
This link has a ton a info, It got a bit technical in few spots for me, but I doubt that will be the case for most of you.

That is a very, very interesting article!
I found this to be the most interesting:
"At top dead-center, an LS1 piston top is actually 0.2mm (.008-in.) higher than the block deck and protrudes into the space surrounded by the head gasket. A typical rebuild procedure is to machine or "deck" the block to correct misalignment or lack of flatness. Once the first LS1’s need overhauls, engine rebuilder will have a learning curve with figuring out how to deck an LS1 case and preserve piston-to-head clearance."
