Torque converter help
I have a 01' T/A with lid, intake, exhaust and i was lookin at maybe a torque converter.
1) What actually is a torque converter and what does it do?
2) Is it a good idea to go with a TC right now?
3) If it isn't a good idea what is?
Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

1) What actually is a torque converter and what does it do?
That is complicated. I do not even fully understand how it works. Think of it as the automatic transmission's clutch. It controls the engagement of the engine to the drivetrain.
2) Is it a good idea to go with a TC right now?
Sure is! Unless you have some very good reason why not too. NOt even sure what that could be.......a good converter will take 0.4-0.6 off of most people's 1/4 mile. It will also greatly improve performance from a roll by making sure that you are in the power band whenever you want to be.
3) If it isn't a good idea what is?
Oh, it is a good idea. And once you have full exhaust and a converter, you can get a nice cam
As for which converter, what do you want to do with it? All i know is that for a daily driven street car that may occasionally see track time, the TCI SSF3500, Vig 3200, or maybe yank SY3500 are recommended. The yank if you will be on street tires, the TCI or Vig for drag radials. Search around on those three and see what you think.
