Default Rough idle

Hello everybody. I am new to the forum but not new to LS1 motor. I have had my 2000 Firebird TransAm for about three years now. my issue currently is I have a rough idle. My oil pressure gauge flutters at idle also. It will go up to about 60 pressure when I am driving and has a slight flutter there. Is the rough idle caused by the sensor? It seems to be running fine aside from idle. I have not drained the oil to inspect. I hope that I do not have an issue with the motor.

The sensor itself won't be causing you an idle issue, but the fluctuation on the gauge is likely a result of whatever issue you are experiencing with the engine. Has the car thrown any codes? Plugs, wires, fuel filter all in good condition?

Nope, no codes. I have not inspected plugs, wires and fuel filter yet. I have owned for about three years now. It does not get driven much. I git it with 105,000 on it and I think it has 108,000 now so I am not what was done to it before me.

You might start with some routine maintenance just to ensure everything is in good condition, and then if the problem continues dig a little deeper. I would recommend cleaning the MAF, change filter, change plugs, change wires, and replace the fuel filter as a start. Also might want to get a manual fuel pressure gauge on the car to verify you're not having a fuel pump issue.

Ok I will start with that. I have hooked up gauges before on my truck but never a fuel pressure gauge. Where would the sensor go on LS1 motor?

There is a place on the end of the fuel rail that you can hook a mechanical gauge up to.

What if I wanted to add a gauge on the inside. Is there a place for a sensor?

Also, what plugs and wires do you or everybody else recommend?

You can mount the sensor on the end of the rail just like you hook a manual gauge, then of course you will just run your wiring and gauge setup somewhere in the car.

As for plugs and wires. For your particular setup I would recommend a NGK TR55 or TR6 plug, and Taylor or MSD wires are a great choice.

Thanks Aaron. Sorry for any stupid questions. I have pretty much just driven the car for almost three years now and have mainly done suspension stuff to it because all of the control arm bushings were shot when I bought it. I installed new BMR Tubular upper and lower control arms. My plan is to install new rear control arms and new Pan Hard bar.

I have a set of 243 heads in my garage off of my buddies 2005 GTO. They only have about 50,000 miles on them. I want to get them ported before putting them on. Needless to say I want to start getting into this car and start having more fun with it. It was raced before me as it has different torque converter and under drive pulley on it. It is also still wired for NOS. The supply line is also still ran from front to back for the NOS. It has an SLP cold air intake box on it and long tube headers.

it was sold to me as a WS6 but after looking at door code and from what I have found online it was not built as WS6 from the factory. Previous owners added ram air hood, cold air intake and shocks I suppose.

No worries. That's what these forums are for is to inform and help people with their cars. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
