Air filter preference?
I am wondering what you more seasoned LS1 drivers prefer when it comes to an aftermarket air filter? I hear that the K&N passes dirt, which is the best in your opinion, and where can I get one? Thanks in advance!

people have posted Dyno results where there has been virtually no difference with filters. The nice thing with the K&N and Holley is that its the only filter you'll ever have to use, you'll just need to clean it in 50,000 miles or so. They cotton filters are also nice if you get a clear lid and have a color scheme going on under the hood, but if you're looking for real performance gains, I'd just stick with the paper filter.

I wouldn't use the K&N units, the reusable oil goofs up the sensors. I've been interested in the FRAM Air Hog. Fram is Allied Signal, and they are a good company. They have their fingers in alot of pies. Literally from aerospace to airfilters. I highly recommend the Fram paper filters. Here's the part number: CA3914 (FRAM) .

I had a K&N for about a week. With it on, everytime I would start the car it would backfire a couple times. Replaced it with a Fram, never done it since. 60 dollar POS, even has to have a gasket to make it fit right!
I rotate my filter 180 degrees every 1000 or 1500 miles, and change it on every oil change (2000 or 3000 miles). They aren't very expensive, and I feel a little better on the inside knowing my filter never has any big bugs or a ton of dirt in it

By the way I use a Holley powershot. Just don't over oil your filter.

I have a Fram Air Hog, no particular reason other than the Pep Boys I went to was out of the paper filter for our cars and I had heard bad things about the fit of the K&Ns... The Air Hog was a little tight fit but I personally have no preference since my car was supposed to come with the Blackwing filter but I am sure the previous owner has it or took somewhere that threw it away... *shrug*
