The thinner gen 3 rods are still plenty up to ~650whp. Some people have stretch them to 900whp or so, with the 4.8s being pushed over 1000whp.

There are guys throwing 300s shots at stock gen 3 rods. You'll be fine.

Wow! This is my first LS..I've worked with SBC all my life..how do the stock pistons hold up then? Engine has 150k miles on it but is super clean and minimum wear. thats the main bearing condition

Avoid detonation, and you won't be able to break the pistons from power alone.

Btw, gen 4 rods are MUCH stronger than gen 3 rods, if you can find some to the the switch.

If the tune up is right you shouldn't any problems using the stock components with a 150 shot.

An 05 should have gen 4 rods. But you said yours look thin, which makes me believe its not an original 05 engine. The Gen 4 rods are very thick with a floating wrist pin.

There are dozens of street cars running 8s (and now 7s) on stock gen 4 rods.

Then you're good to go.
I'm cramming 26 PSI of boost on my stock gen 4 rods and pistons they're taking it like a champ.

You can give it really put the juice to them. They'll shrug off 150 like its nothing.
