Question on HTPP III
Has anyone ever experianced a horsepower lost after they used the Hypertech programmer on their LS1 engine? A few Tech mention to me that they Dyno a few customers vehicles after they use the hypertech programmer they lost power. How true is this?
I was thinking about getting a HTPP III and 160deg Stat!

I've got an HPP3 and 160 deg stat... they work very well together in terms of keepin the car cooler... i run about 10 degrees cooler now than i did before. In terms of hp loss, it is very possible. HPP3 doesn't tune in terms of what you have on you car, it's a generic tune. If you really want all the hp you can get, a dyno is the only way to do so. Plus, in retrospect, I would go with an HPTuners instead of HPP3. You can do so much more with it.

HPP3 is a waste of money... some cars do lose power on it (the tune leans the car out.. , and raises timing...) ... if you can get an HPP3 used then go for it (make sure it's for your year and model and that the owner unlocks it by restoring his car to 100% stock) if not the HPP3 isn't worth it

So it seems that the HTPP III is only good for minor changes that are not HP related. So what would be the best way for me to run cooler besides the 160 stat? Are there any other options?

What mods do have right know. If you plan on getting aftermarket gears or tires You may want to purchase a programmer. HPPIII has it advantages as far as reprograming the pcm for tires, and gears you don't have to install the power tuning option but you can still use it for gears, tires size, shift points, shift firmness (A4) cooling fan temp, and rev limiter.

I just put a minor cam and LSX intake in last week and now I'm looking to get some headers and 373 gear.
I was trying to decide if I should spend the money on a HTPP 3 or just wait to I get all my parts and get a Dyno tune.

yea dyno tune... the HPP3 is useless for what you need... it will fix your speedo that's it... you need that thing wideband dyno tuned or a real tuning package (HP Tuners for example) and tune it yourself (preferably with a Wideband O2 sensor)
