Default Matchups between Camaros-and-Firebirds

Ok..i always thought it was

RS-Firebird Norm
Z28-Formula
SS-Trans Am
SLP SS-WS6's..

which i see i must be wrong..

someont old me its

RS-Firebird Norm
Z28-Formula And Trans Am
SS-WS6

Firehawk all by itself..

SO>>i don't get this..i got a bone stock 98 Trans Am..and i raced a Bone Stock 99 SS...and I beat him..we were right next to each other the whole way..and at the very end...i pulled on him and barely beat him btw both cars were Automatic..so it wasn't the shifting eather..

Can someone explain this to me ..im confused...about the matchups

your "matchups" other than the v6's are kind of null anyhow...they are all almost the same cars other than a few tweaks here and there and some styling details

If you must:

v6 Camaro - v6 Firebird (ground effects have no special name)
SLP RS Camaro - SLP Firebird GT
Z28 - Formula, T/A (once again, effects have no special name)
SS - WS6 (T/A or Formula)
SLP SS - SLP Firehawk (T/A or Formula)

Man, I love that SOM. I've heard this story before. It's probably that 2 extra hp the Ram Air T/A gets while at speed. A good example of how "every little bit helps"

Capt, thats true sometimes, but he doesn't have a WS6. Just a good o'le T/A like mine. My old Formula WS6 would outrun T/A WS6s and SS's half the time, maybe its a weight thing? fabric interior/no ground effects/no wing. who knows.

It's really tough to compare the two. Just know mostly all ls1 powered f-bodies put down similar dyno #'s, and don't believe the factory ratings b/c they are way off.

I always wanted to know bout the relationship btwn f-bodies and stangs. Saw an article once in Motor trend like 5 yrs ago comparing the Z to the Cobra...??? Figured it should have been the SS to the Cobra (for price ranging).

Yeah, basically your right, but most refer to a SS with SLP options (wheels, 345 hp pkg, suspension, etc.) as a SLP SS.

Yeah, stock for stock they are all the about the same hp wise except for the Firehawk and SLP SS w/ 345 hp pkg. They get a lid and catback over the others from the factory so they tend to be a little more powerful stock.

Fair enough.

I keep my "non-slp" package SS with the TSP lid and GMMG catback over their 345hp package any day

My bone stock '02 Z took a bone stock (?year)Formula by a car and a half. Its all about the gear and trans and driver stock to stock Chevy to Pontiac. A 2.73 A4Z up against a 3.42 M6 Formula, the Pontiac would kill. Visa versa.
