Looking to buy an LS1 car
I am just getting into the whole LS1 thing, so I have alot of questions. I know I want a car with a six speed and I have about 10,000 give or take to spend. What should I look for? Are there any major issues with the cars? Are there any differences between the pontiac and chevy besides looks? Just looking around really quick today I figured I should be able to afford a decent 98 or something?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First off, welcome to the boards and thank you for making a wise choice.
The search feature is your friend, I did a quick search for you, try reading through these threads.

All the LS1's run roughly the same, and it all evens out in the end once you start modding.
Good luck!

WELCOME!!!
Try that search that blkZ28SPT provided, and take a peek at our Vehicle Classifieds .
The T/A's weigh a little bit more and the interior is different, but the motor, tranny, and chasis is the same.
Peace,
Craig.

Last summer I got my 2000 M6 Z28 for $12,000 after TTL. The car is loaded(leather, everything) Look around for a good deal. At the track, especially stock you tend to see better numbers with the Auto's but I would never change mine. Soo much fun to drive!

Man I just went through the same thing. IN a few weeks I figured out that the best years are 2001-2002 but anything 98 and up is fine. The 97-98 LS1 can't be bored over - .004 hone is the only option with the stock sleeves so if it needs more than a cleanup you'll have to resleve it... 2001+ has the LS6 manifold (about $300 used), better M6 internals and some other minor stuff I forget right now
anyways I'm a newb but I thinks what I'm saying is accurate.. Good luck in the hunt!!

Thanks for all the replies guys! First off, the reason I want a 6 speed is because my other vehicle is an auto and I miss driving a manual. My other vehicle right now is a 94 lightning but its getting old with 160,000 miles and stuff is finally starting to break. I'm just gonna park it and slowly fix it up and drive the LS1 daily(If I get one). I had two mustangs and I really miss my 5 speed mustang but I had to build a stroker motor for it just to keep up with a stock LS1. I've been a Ford guy since I was driving but I have always liked and respected the LS1 and I think that now I am looking for another car i'm gonna give it a shot. I just want a reliable, quick, car that I can have fun with. I don't want to go crazy with mods because that is what I plan on doing with my truck, but believe me I will do the standard bolt-ons. I have tomorrow off so I think I am going to go shop around and get a feel for the cars, I've only ridden in one LS1 car and one LT1 car and never driven one so i'm looking forward to testing one out. I've heard that the clutches are pretty bad in the 6 speed cars as well, anyone want to comment on this? Thanks everyone!! Hopefully i'll be driving one soon!

Check to make sure nothing is warped/wrinkled under and around the car. Check the intake area to see if Nitrous has been applied at all, and check all window/headlight/antenna motors to see if they all work.
The warping/wrinkling means no-buy, all the other stuff can be fixed for $100 but you could probably negotiate the price down lower if they're busted

Thanks, this is very good advice! I am very familiar with spotting warped mustangs but I haven't looked closely at F-bodies. I would assume to check the same places, like the A pillars for cracking paint, and underneath in the subframe area, correct?

Do you know what you just said? Yeah, if you're gonna get an auto just get a honda! OMG that is so stupidly backwards......no, really, I dont like my auto, running a 1.72-1.74 60' with a few of the bolt-ons and destroying any M6 with equal mods in the 1/4 means I should buy a Honda
