02 LS6 in 99 SS
not new, but not sure where to put this
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a deal that I may be able to get a 2002 LS6 for $3500.00 It has never been to the track and has 12700 miles on it. I have many questions about that.
First off. Not sure of the best place to put these questions.
Is this a good deal?
Will it run on the stock computer? Could I just get the car tuned?
Will everything(accesseries) bolt right to it?
It has no intake(LS6). Put on another LS6?
I may just do a cam in it. What would be good for about 420 at the wheels??
Car is bolt ons with 4:10 gears.
any other concerns with this swap?
Thank You
Chris

more info has been brought to my attn. your motor might be a lil "tired" in comparison to the LS6 your considering. it might not be a bad investment....is it just the motor that you would be purchasing? what would u haveta supply in order for it drop right in?

I wouldn't go for it.
You could freshen the bottom end (rings, forged pistons), get a set of ported heads and a real cam for less than that.
You'd make more power, you wouldn't be putting a used motor in your car, and you'd know its done right because you did it yourself.
Of course, if you aren't going to be modding it, and you just want bragging rights, by all means drop the LS6 in. Of course, if you aren't modding it, why not just get a brand new rebuilt bottom end instead of an LS6?

5,500 new for an assembled ls6 block? I thought on GM parts depot they were like 8 grand? Idk...if it comes with everything that isnt really a bad deal.
That being said..if you can throw the 3500 down id drop the ls1 out, sell it, and pick up a 402 stroker from SLP

Sounds like a great deal to me. LS1s go for over 6k from GM so I can't imagine the LS6 being any less. Plus then you have a low mileage engine in your car again. Never a bad thing.
