Default What is the difference...

GM's engines? Like what is the difference between and LS1 and an LS2? LS6 and LS7? LT1 and LT4? I'd love to know! Never been told the difference!

The LT4 was an upgrade to the LT1 in '96 and '97. I think all the 6-speed Vettes in '96 got the LT4. Some SS's (and maybe Firehawks?) got it in '97. It's got different heads, cam and intake. Maybe other minor stuff too (knock sensor?)

The LS6 is basically to the LS1 what the LT4 was to the LT1. It's got a different block though too. The LS2 and LS7 are the next generation...

AFAIK the LT4 was a different block as well, 4 bolt mains perhaps? It was in I believe 29 (plus 1 "prototype" car) Firehawks in the 97 year.

all LT4's were 6 speeds, my dad had a 96 vette Lt4 convertible.

i believe there were like 100 97 Anniversary Camaro SS LT4's..all 6 speed, all hardtops.

i'm not sure on the number of 97 LT4 Firehawks, but it was a good bit less..once again all M6, all hardtops.

The number 27 keeps coming to my mind for some reason.

The differences between you are asking can take a very long time to type out and would vary by the amount of knowledge about each engine and you knowledge of engines and chevy small blocks in paticular. A google search would do great, I believe GMHTP did an article last issue about the differences of the LS1 and the LS2 btw.

All Base, Vert, and CE 6 speed Vettes in 96 got the LT4. The Grand Sport was available with the auto or 6 speed, and the only engine offered for that was the LT4 (which is why every LT4 car - even the SS - has "Grand Sport" on the throttle body plate).

That article in GMHTP said that the LS1 and LS2 share nothing in common, not even a nut or bolt!

The biggest difference is the new positioning of the crank sensor and the DOD bosses. They use LS6 heads and the LS2 intake swap is becoming popular. So you definitly didn't read that in GMHTP.

They might have been talking about the LT1 vs the LS1 - in which case, nothing is common.

It was probably LS1-LT1. I believe the O-rings are interchagable, and that is it.
