Default How Do You Disconnect The Battery?

I've never done this before and I thought it would be easier than it has turned out to be.

I have a 2000 SS with the side mounted connections. Am I trying to unscrew the two metal posts sticking out? If so, with what tool? These will not budge...and maybe they're not supposed to.

I tried prying off just the red and black plastic parts that are connected to the metal posts, but that didn't seem right to me so I stopped?

I know this is an extremely newbie question, but I don't want to screw anything up.

Any help is appreciated.

i don't know if i can help you since i'm not quite sure what you are wanting...there are two 8mm bolts holding the + and - cables on...if you are taking the battery out undo both of them

yep thats all you have to do. then to take out the battery (if thats what youre doing), theres a rubber peice thats bolted down that holds the battery in place as well

8mm if the bolts arent mangled, channel-locks if they are

they SHOULD just unscrew, sometimes they get very corroded and stuck. if this is the case, try to grab the largest part you can with the channel-locks. the little 8mm nubs sticking out like to break off.

i've had battery terminals completly rip out of the battery before trying to unscrew them, new battery time if this happens!

Guys, it would probably helpful to point out that the NEGATIVE (black) cable should come off first. Easier'n dirt to short that positive terminal......

yeah, i knew that comment was coming. i'm basically retarded when it comes to modding my car.

i did the basic stuff like the FTRA, the lid, etc. but everything else was done by speed inc.
