Default How I should spend my first $1,000 on my car

Opinions wanted.

HOPING to have the 91 sold today so help me choose how to spend the mod money.

I'd really like to make the 2000 Trans Am handle and look nice, so I'm thinking of doing this:

$1,000
- $126 UMI subframe connectors (w/10% sale)
- $117 UMI adjustable panhard rod (w/10% sale)
- $089 UMI tubular lower control arms (w/10% sale)
- $054 UMI LCA relocation brackets (w/10% sale)
- $030 Exhaust cutout
- $170 DMS lowering springs
- $150 Window tint (appx. price)
--------------------------------------------------------------
= $264 to put towards shipping and spring/SFC/bracket install

I'm thinking of doing this because I think I want to eventually go the way of forced induction on this car, so I don't want to spend a bunch of money on N/A mods like a cam or bigger TB or headers.

So the other option is to take the $1,000 and set it aside towards turboing my car, but I don't know when I'd be able to fund the additional 2 to 3 grand since I have an upcoming wedding/moving and housing expenses/etc. to worry about.

So I'm looking for ideas. Let me know how you would spend my $1,000 on my car!

I have had my car for 3 years now and this is the first spring I am doing anything to it. I went with:
My coveted WS9 hood from Roger: 600.00
Magnaflow Catback: 375.00

I bought a lot more to, but that will put you at 1000.00. I would definetely do a catback (400 or so, depending on which you choose), lid and filter (150), strut tower brace (100-200), subframe connectors (125), the rest of your suspension compenents add up to about 260, which puts you a little over 1G. That is the route I would go, unless you really believe you will be able to save for that Turbo!

Sorry, I should specify, I already have a lid and STB.

Current mods list: MTI lid, UMI STB, UMI short shifter, free mods.

I don't want to waste money on a cat-back because I will probably be going with an STS remote mount turbo system (yes I know the pros and cons) and that would render a catback useless.

I like the suspension mod list. All my priorities are backwards though, my first grand, or should i say grand and a half is going to a radar detector and full system. My next grand will probably be suspension mods.

The STS kit wont work with the SFC. Also the turbo kit doesnt render a cat back useless since the I pipe will enlarge to 3 inch. If you want it to handle do the suspension stuff, minus SFC if your gonna go with the STS. Also with that STS your gonna want an ls6 intake and some headers to get that extra air in and out.

i'd get
- $126 UMI subframe connectors (w/10% sale)
- $??? Magnaflow catback
- $089 UMI tubular lower control arms (w/10% sale)
- $054 UMI LCA relocation brackets (w/10% sale)
- $030 Exhaust cutout
- $170 DMS lowering springs
- $150 Window tint (appx. price)
- $100 Lid

may be slightly more than what you want to spend...100-200+ but the exhaust and lid will be more than worth it...fyi a cutout doesn't really sound good imo...but good for track...

In his second post he mentions that he has a lid, stb, short shifter and free mods.

Headers and cut out, or an ls6 intake if you plan on the turbo. Get the supporting mods inplace first.

No SFC if you are getting a STS turbo.

Put the slp loudmouth exhaust so you don't have a muffler mudding the rear of your bird.

As far as I know the STS doesn't work with SFC's, because that is where they run the intake pipe. Might want to double check that but last I heard it didn't work with SFC's.

Good choice on the suspension

I would highly recommeded the SFC's at least, although they are correct and they will not work with the STS system.

fyi a cutout doesn't really sound good imo...
I disagree... I think they sound great on a stock LS1 IF you still have cats. No cats = RASP CENTRAL

FYI I think I have decided to go with the Phamspeed budget kit as opposed to the STS kit, so if I save for turbo I am almost halfway there with the stated $1,000. But I do not understand the statement earlier about the STS system not rendering a catback useless.... the STS mounts where a catback would go and handles its duties...

The turbo mounts behind the rear axle onto the I-pipe, the cat back starts at the Y-pipe. The factory I-pipe is something like 2.5 inches, most aftermarket catbacks are 3 inch, some 3.5 or 4inch. unless the system comes with an I-pipe that is bigger than stock the cat back I-pipe would be beneficial.
