The A/C belt is on a tensioner just like the main belt. Real easy job.

the tensioner for the ac belt did not respond the same as the serp belt tensioner. i used a socket to loosen it, then it stayed loose until i tightened it back up. what do you think??

Hmmm. I did mine last week and it was as simple as the top one.

Both have a tensioner that moves with a socket or wrench. 15mm I think. Put tension on it to move it up out of the way and remove the belt. Replace the belt. Put tension on the pulley bolt and it will move up out of the way while you place the belt on the tensioner pulley. Release tension. Done.

If it's different than that, I don't know what you did.

You do not loosen a tensioner. You tighten it and the tensioner has a spring that moves and relieves the tension on the belt. After that you just slide the belt off while still pulling the wrench. Then you can release the wrench to put tension back on (even though the belt is off). You then repeat to put the new one on.
