Default A/c HELP

How much R-134a does the a/c system in a 98 formula hold? I broke a hose and now putting new freon into the system. Just want to know how much it takes when it's completely dry.

1.5 lbs.

Overcharging can cause system damage.

Ok, well can someone tell me what my problem is. Overcharging, undercharging, or bad compressor, or something else. I broke my ac line (the one with the sensor on it) well I got a new one. Now there is nothing in the system at all. I put one can of r134a in it. It had 13oz of that and 2 oz of oil. I put it in while the air was running. Well the compressor never kicked on. So I added half of another. Compressor still never kicked on. So I added the rest. I turned the car off and started it back up the compressor kicked on for about 15 seconds and then shut off. It now blows air that is hotter than the vents, but not by much. Everytime I let it sit for 15 minutes or so the compressor will kick on when i start it and do the same thing. What do I need to do.

Needs more freon.

You really need to hook some gauges up and see what the pressures are or take it to a pro. I work on a/c for a living and if you dont know what your doing you can **** up more then you fix..

Do you have guages so you can see the pressures? After pulling a vacuum and adding referigerant pressures depend on ambient temp/humidity, for example:

86-95*, 30%+humidity - 42-46 psi low/218-261 psi high side.

Yeah I don't have gauges. I should have just let someone do it in the first place but I'm retarded.

Well got the car back from the mechanic. Said he couldn't figure out what's the deal because the freon was at the right level. The compressors kicks on, but just for a little bit then it shuts off and won't come back on until the car is turned off let sit for a few minutes and then started back again.

The tube going from the hvac stuff in the back of the engine bay to the condensor. There's a sensor on it by the fenderwell. What does that sensor control? That's the tube I had to replace and wonder if it's something to do with that as it's not a new line.
