Question Quick question about my purchase, please help

Hello Everyone,
In about 6 hrs I am getting a 98 Formula, Auto.
Its in a great shape, but I had few questions:
Can the miles be dropped by some kind of a computer program? And if so, is there any way to find out about it?
The reason I ask is that the coors just looks like it has a lot of miles, plus, the seller mentioned one time that "all these high miles" were from the highway..." Its just his attitude... I did not want to buy something that they worked with and decresed the mileage on the odometer. Plus, if they did that, what else did they do to just try to make it appealing?
I am buying it from an individual, in case you guys were wondering.
Also, he is seeling it with absolutelly no body damage, great looking cloth interior, T-tops, black- for 4K.
It seems to be a great deal.
Please let me know.
It just has been bothering me all night and wanted to ask away.
By the way, this site is awesome, got great deal of information on 98-2002 differences. Thanks in advance,
Greg

how many miles does the car have?? I think you have to change the whole dash on order to change the miles. 4k is really cheap.

I think I read on another thread here that there is a way to stop miles from registering on the odometer reading but true miles are going to be stored on the PCM. Not 100% sure though. If you buy it and later find out that it was tampered with, someones going to be in deep **** and if your lucky you might be able to get compensated for it. $4000 does seem a bit low though.

The low price may be due to a Salvage/Rebuilt title. Run a carfax on the VIN and see if the title is clear, also that will give you a chance to see the mileage reports and make sure everything lines up properly with the current mileage.

Thank you guys for all the answers.
I went ahead and bought the car. It has 140k miles, one owner, I bought it from a used car dealer who the previous owner traded a car to.
Clear carfax, clear TX title, no signs of a wreck, has a R fender with a road rash/swipe, barely visible. Has auto, shifts great, has a terrible exhaust (will order a loud mouth tonight .
I believe now that the mileage was correct, per carfax report also within expected.
I am glad that everyone thought that it was a good deal, I even gave him some consultations (medical) and saw his kid while he was there.
The final driveout- 4k with tax, title and license.
I was quiet happy with it.
I will see you guys around.
I am going to follow the forum's recommendations:
I think I am getting a lid, exhaust, plugs...
Well, actually 1st- oil change!!!
Thanks again guys,
Greg
