Default Thinking about trading my 99 GT for this 98 T/A

Well, to put it shortly, I miss F-bodies. Sold my old LT1 Z28 for a 99 GT. Anyway, there is a dealer that has a 98 Trans Am. It's got everything I want....nice color, t-tops, 6 speed, but what worries me is that it's got 110K miles. I haven't seen it yet, but judging from the pics, it looks like it's in good shape. How does it drive? That's another question. I'm not sure if this a fair trade though. My Mustang has 90,000 miles on it and is the same shape as the Trans Am. The mileage scares me though. I know it's just a number. If you guy's who are more experienced with the LS1, please post your opinions, please do. Here's a pic.... http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...2&adid=5817649

There's plenty of guys on this site with LS1's in the 100,000 mile area without problems, i would do whatever it takes to get out of that Ford

I'm not sure that "dealer" and "fair trade" even belong in the same post.

Don't be so scared of a higher mileage t/a if you can tell that it was well taken care of.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about the mileage as far as a reliability factor. But the mileage is something to consider being that you are trading it for your lower mile car. I would say to me it is worth it, but that's kinda up to you and your gut feeling. Good luck man! Hope you get another f-body soon!!

Thanks for the replies guys! I was also thinking about just selling the GT, and buying an F-body. I think I could get more out of that.

Mileage isn't anything but a number. As long as the car was taken care of no worries. There are people on the site with LS1's near the 200k mark i personally seen one with 195,000 on it. My 98 TA has 133,000 on it and it runs as good as my 01 SS that has 63,000. The LS1 is far more reliable than the LT1 you used to own. I personally had a LT1 Z with 183k on the clock and it ran great but other little things were headaches like Optispark,Coil, ICM etc. LS1 is the ****!

I just got off the phone with the dealer. He say's he'll do an even trade with the GT. I told I'd think about it. It's so tempting. I could have an LS1 Trans Am by this Saturday, lol!! I still need to test drive it though. If you guys want to see more pics go to http://listings.boostmotorgroup.com/...&RowNumber=141

it looks pretty good, just need the interior cleaned up and minor things, but other than that its stock looking so that means there's less chance that someone has messed with it. Good luck, if i were you i'd jump on it

Yeah, the exterior is mint. An older guy owned it and stored it in his garage. The interior would need a clean up, but I'm no stranger to car cleaning, lol!!!

I would do it personally, its not much more than your GT mileage wise, and around here Fbods are way more $$ than Mustangs so if he's going to trade you even that is awesome. If you miss your old Fbod, then trust me you'll forget about your Mustang in no time. I too want to sell my Stang and get a Camaro. I drove one a couple of weeks ago and the bug just wont go away.

Yeah, F-bodies, especially Trans Am's are way mor money then F-bodies. I don't think I'll miss my Mustang, even if I had an LT1, lol! Nothing against Mustangs....I just miss my F-body!

I recently went mustang to fbody, no regrets here...
And a dealer willing to do a strait trade is unheard of lol, can't tell how many times i've thought I'd get a pretty close trade and they want some stupid ammount of money on top the deal. I say go for it!

You found a dealer who'd do a straight up trade??? Either he has absolutely NOTHING into the car or he really thinks your GT will get a buyer faster (more likely). Do not worry about high mileage. I have 140K on my car and it runs like new.

Easier for a dealer to sale a car under 100000 so trading will benifit the dealer alot.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I think that's why he'll do an even trade. He may think the Mustang is a more popular seller. I'm still thinking about it though. It's tempting, when I could have a freaking Trans Am sitting in my garage rather then a GT, by the weekend lol!!!
