Cam and Tuning
I am sure you all have answered this a 1000 times. Anyway I have a 2002 z28 6 speed . I was wondering what is the biggest Cam I can do without doing any tuning on the computer. I understand springs must be changed out and what not.
I have pacesetters headers orders with there off road y.
Underdrive pully
Slp cold air lid
All of this is ordered and not on car. Anything else you could think of to get me around 400 to rear wheels please feel free to chime up.
Thanks for your guys help !!!!!!!!!! This web site is the ssheeaot.

A tiny *** cam close to stock, and your A/F will still be jacked up. Just get the cam you want and a tune. You can have it customed tune 4-500 or software and do it yourself. There's a decent amount of resources for tune repositories that you can download with similar mods and go from there so you don't have to start from scratch. IMO it would be better/easier to get a custom tune. Do you mean the biggest cam and drive it for a while until you can get it tuned, or just cam it and drive long term? Anything that changes the A/F ideally needs a tune.

I've heard of someone driving an MS3 237/242, .603/.609 on a stock tune for a bit. You will have serious driveability issues with a big cam on a stock tune but it will run. If you want to tune it your self check the tuning forum https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagnostics-tuning-7/ and read the stickies. The premiere software for lsx is efilive and argueably hptuners some like ls1edit, but the aforementioned allow the integration of a wideband o2. There's plenty of info on this site, do your research before you buy.

To answer you quesion about tuning, no matter what cam you get it will need to be tuned. Like posted above, even anything a little bigger then stock will throw everything off. not only are you going to want to get a tune for driveability, but your not going to get all the power out of the cam without a good tune.
And yes, you MUST change your valvesprings, no matter how big or small your going with your cam. the stock springs are only good enough for a stock cam, and barely at that.

depends if you want a big power top end screamer, or a slightly more sedate, though making power all over lower and midrange grunter.
there are endless cam options to suit exactly your goals.
decide exactly what your goals are. are you looking for just a #?? or useable power? what are your current and planned mods?? it is a DD, or a racer? auto-xer ??? answer these and then it can de decided what might properly suit your needs.

If i hit it with a 100 shot ....will the clutch hold up........ I read a article where the 2002 cam with a zo6 clutch.http://www.lastofthebreed.com/Servic.../FbodyDiff.htm
I have 2000 grand to spend it is a daily driver , but I love to play on the weekends. I want a good strong power band.

that is the LS6 Z06 clutch(barely stronger then the 98-00 clutches), which will most likely not hold a 100 shot for very long. Regardless of which way you end up going (cam, nitrous) your going to want a new clutch. It will be fine for DD for awhile, but its going to slip its *** off with more power.
My advice would look into getting a LS7 clutch unless your plan on alot of power in future. this clutch will be good up to about 450-500whp. After that you should have about $1400 left over to cam it, or put on a nitrous kit. Just remember a good tune is going to cost anywhere from $3-500.
P.S. i was spraying my car with a 100 shot, with the stock clutch at first(no cam at this time). My clutched seemed fine, but the first time i sprayed on it, it slipped like no other.

Wow you have 2,ooo grand to spend? I'm jealous lol j/k. But you should look In to some LG cams. Like the x3 or x4 cam, They sound great and make good power but will cost you more then most other cams. I just ordered the x4 cam, I can't wait to get it in!!!!!!
