A lot of auto cars come with either the 2.73's or 3.23s M6 Cars usually come with GU6 3.42 Gears. My 2002 SS a4 came with 3.23 and my friends 2002 Z-28 came with 2.73 Like Blk97WS6 said just check the RPO code on the door jam and see what gear ratio you have. You should have one of those codes and those are the gears your car came with unless of course somebody else already installed different gears if thats so thats a plus for you!!! >: )

Like everyone else said all ready, open your drivers door and look at the RPO code sticker.
GU2 = 2.73 and GU5= 3.23's. Either way an upgrade to 3.42's or 3.73's isn't a bad thing

3:42's or 3:73's would be a great upgrade for you. For performance reasons I would go with the 3:73's but if you do a lot of highway driving 3:42's might be better for you. Which ever route you chose to take just make sure you get the car retuned after the install because it is important or the odometer reading.

I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

The transmission also shifted out too quick driving on the street. I have a 3-series Torsen and a 3.42 from a wrecked car to install now. I think part of the drivability problem with the 3.73 gear was the converter. I am going to get a new converter. I have had good luck with TCI's in other cars, so I will probably get one of those. I am going to add the subframe connectors and change the torque arm as well. I already have the control arms. LG Motorsports has a X-Brace that works with the subframe connectors to further stiffen the car. I am thinking that I will install this also. I already have drag radials, a 160 thermostat, and a programmer. I also cut out the bottom of the air box.
