Skip shift is a solenoid that closes the 2nd gear shift gate to force you to shift from 1st to forth under certain conditions. It is there to skirt the gas guzzler tax, and keeping the RPM's low helps it pass the minimum requirement.
Whether or not you need to get rid of it depends on your driving style. If this is your daily driver and you tend to drive easy and like a sane person, you'll hit it every time you pull away from a complete stop. If you are hard on the throttle a lot, and this is your play toy, you may not hardly notice it.

You can either get the skip shift eliminator, stick the right size resistor from radio shak in the connector, or have it tuned out of the ecm. If you will be performing enough mods that tuning is in your future, may as well get it tuned out.

you can do one of three things:

1. get a plug and play skip shift eliminator
2. get the proper resistor from radio shack (do a search)
3. have someone with programming software edit it out of the car's computer

Yup.
One question tho...why the HELL is this in the internal engine section?

2.2K OHM, 1/2 watt resistor. Plug it in and it will disable the skip shift although you will still see the skip shift light.
