Water vs. Antifreeze vs. Water+Water Wetter
Now I got in a argument with someone the other day about this. Does any have experience with testing the temps on these? I live in the desert, so if below freezing temps are not a problem, what runs the coolest?
On the back of the redline water wetter bottle it says that straight water, cools better the 50/50 antifreeze. And of course water with water wetter cools the best. I wanted to run about 15% Antifreeze, a bottle of water wetter, and the rest water. Anyone care to comment on this?

I do believe that water is most effective when cooling an engine. But I dont have volumes of technical knowledge,to break it all down.I just know there are reasons why we use antifreeze

Water Wetter helps in that area too. I like distilled water and water wetter in both my cars and truck.

Look at evanscooling.com and do some reading its some good stuff. Its the best coolant ive ever used. The government uses it, military, ECT. Its about 30.00 a gal. Its a waterless coolant.. Its better than anything you have listed. Boone.

Do you run your radiator full of it? Does it keep that thing ice cold, or do your fans still kick on all the time?

If you have a cooling problem it just fits into the equation with the other stuff. When I am hard on my car I want it to cool and stay cool and we are talking what is the best if I'm not mistaken, not pretty close, or pretty good. 30.00 is not much money to stay cool especially when its a permanent coolant. Staying cool is not just pissing away money and 30.00 dollars is not ****.

Anti-freeze serves two purposes....
1)Lowers the freezing point
2)Has corrosion inhibitors to keep rust from forming and also lubricates
If you're looking for pure cooling efficiency, anti-freeze is worse than straight water. I personally run close to 50/50 water/antrifreeze and toss in a bottle of water wetter as well. Water-wetter also has some anti-corrosive properties to it.
What percentage of anti-freeze is enough to prevent corrosion and adequately lubricate the system? That I don't know.

A few gallons of water and water wetter ($20) its hard to get any of my engines past 200-210. Thats in this Arizona 115 degree heat, and I must admit Im hard on my engines. If I run any cooler than that I honestly would be worried. $30 a gallon? times 4 gallons to fill system equals $120 plus tax and shipping. They claim a 500,000 life cycle. That may be true(which I doubt) I cant see running anything in my system for that long or even 100,000 miles. JMHO

the less antifreeze you put in the ratio with water, the better the cooling is. if you are in desert and rarely face freezing temps you should use much less antifreeze. I personally have about a 80/20 ratio of distilled to dexcool and a bottle of water wetter in it. My temps went down by 10-15 deg when i switched from the 50/50 mix.

antifreeze is best for rust prevention. some car show did an experiment a while back. put identical bolts into jars containing water, straight antifreeze, and 50/50 mix. after a day the only one that wasnt completely rusted was the 50/50. the bolt was brand new. you might be cooling more with water, but youre rusting up your waterpump and who knows what else.

The thermal transfer properties of glycol are why it is used in refrigeration systems. And all a refrigeration system does is pick up heat, run it through an evaporator/radiator and a fan blows off the heat. Glycol gives up heat easily. So I am a little skeptical about straight water being better.
