What's the BEST YEAR LS1 engine to buy........? I'm looking to purchace a slightly used LS1 engine with a 4L60E transmission attached to it and it seems alot of corvetts and camaros are getting wrecked so I thought I would take advantage of this and puchace one of them.
The question is what year should I be looking out for to get the BEST BANG for the buck?

Re: What's the BEST YEAR LS1 engine to buy........? oh and also if you purchase any of the 01 and 02 fbody LS1's to check for the LS6 block. Some came with that block straight from the factory.

Correct me if Im wrong, but the only real HP improvement stock for stock on the 01-02 LS1s is from the LS6 manifold right? The 01-02s have a smaller cam, so theoretically if you get a 99-00 and get an LS6 manifold youd have a stronger car.

I know the 01-02s got stronger rod bolts, but im just talking about HP here.

98-99 did not come with the factory installed piston slap though as many 00-02's did.
