Default Would you buy this?

It's a 98 Trans AM, the car is MINT, saw it yesterday and couldn't believe the condition, 51K miles, 30K from 1st owner, 2nd owner has put 20K over the past 7 years..its a black on black t top M6, guy wanted 10,900, but he said he will part with 10 700, the car seems to need a clutch, it seems very soft, and a driver side window motor, and thats it..i didn't see any leaks or damage at all..carfax is clean..car is garage stored and has a nice layer of dust from sitting..i've only had LT1 cars and I want this version of the LS1, wish I could find a WS6 but noone seems to have any : (, so $10,700 for a 98? Would you pay?

Yes I would, if the car is that clean and it runs well I would pay a decent buck for it. And with the money saved from not buying a WS6, you could just buy a hood.

I don't know, I would probably pass if it needs a new clutch. Get it in high gear, ie. 5th, low rpm's throttle it and see if it slips, if it does tell him to get it fixed or talk him down.

Try and get it for under $10k if it needs a clutch.

the guy is REAL firm, he wanted 10,900, i got him to 10,700 and thats it, and its just to cover the failing drivers window motor, I felt no slipping, the pedal just doesnt seem to have much..but with this damn hydro systems I can't tell to well..seems to be Okay though, the guy never drives the car, full of dust outside! I'm amazed lol. On a side note, thats what I was planning, purchasing the car and putting a WS9 hood though..like the reverse ducks. The price, espically for a 98 just seems so high, but I don't see to many black on "dark grey" : / T/A arounds, I don't want to pass this car but at the same time i'm dieing for a 01/02 with the ebony interior. I researched alittle and people seem to complain about the 98's PCM, tuning wise. BTW this car would be receiving an APS Twin Turbo Kit in a month or so..so another reason a WS6 might be a waste of money, I'd hate to kill the WS6. So question really is, almost 11K worth it for a 98? Or spending 2-3 more and getting a 00'+? Just alot harder to come buy. I just can't wait to have a LS1 TA next to my LT1 triple white TA...Thank god I sold my SS

If I were you I think I would keep looking. I found my 01 SOM Ws6 -m6 for under 12k in Mint condition. I actually found it on the for sale section on here. I would keep an eye out on that section of the forum....there are some pretty good deals on there...just need to catch it at the right time. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Don't know if you plan on doing the power window motor youself. But be warned they are a BITCH to replace. Motor doesn't cost much but man are they a pain to replace.

keep looking....I got my 2000 a few years ago for 12k out the door from a dealer...and there was nothing wrong with it. it also had 51k miles.

look at the kbb.com value in my area that ride in excellent condition is only 8,900 he needs to get a reality check and drop the price a few stacks!

*edit* I am a real advocate of kbb. when i go buy a car i have the sheets printed out to show the seller, although you rarely get the car for the KBB value it is a good bargening tool and helps give both parties a realistic value for what each other are willing to settle on there are a few other sites out there that can give you a good value.*edit*

Buy it man. If the clutch still releases near the middle of the stroke of the pedal and if you drive it and punch the gas and it does not slip then it is probably ok. Sounds like a good deal, to find a better deal would be lucky and you would have to be jonny on the spot before it got bought up. Sounds like a nice car. Don't pass it up.

I wouldn't go that far.

I replaced mine in about an hour and a half and I sucked at it.

The online instructions, I think they came from www.ls1howto.com , made it very reasonable.
