Smoke Coming Out @ WOT, Is This Normal?
I've only had my 01' Z28 for about a month, so I've got a long ways to go on learning about the LS1. I got on the innerloop today n I hit it WOT at around 75 MPH, I noticed a little smoke came out the exhaust when I hit it. Is that normal? Also, when I got home, I checked the oil n there was a little smoke that came out when I took the dipstick out. Is that normal also? The oil pressure n tempurature read OK. Do I need to lighten up on the car n not hit it WOT at such high speeds or am I just being paranoid?

upgrade to the ls6 pcv system. i had this issue, but i also rebuilt my whole engine (2001 Pontiac Formula LS1-T56,80k miles) i found that i had 4 bad exhaust valve seals, and 2 pistons with bad rings. rebuilt it, new parts, bigger cam, longtube headers, and runs stronger than ever, and smoke free. ls6 pcv is the biggest thing tho.

A LS6 pcv system eh? That sounds good to me, I hope that's all it is, cause the engine only has 19,000 some miles on it. And the guy I bought it from took great care of it n hardly drove it. It runs great, just seeing smoke just isn't something u really wanna' see unless if it's coming from your tires, lol. Thanks every1. I feel more conifident that's all it is.

I think a little bit is normal. These cars run rich at WOT, which will cause a little black smoke/soot but I'm not sure that it is enough to notice from the driver's seat. I know that the insides of my Corsa exhaust tips get really black after a weekend of blasting around a road coarse (and the car burns almost zero oil).
