What to get when going with a lid?
Looking at getting (probably an SLP) lid for my Formula. I have heard its a good idea to get a smooth bellows as well. Is this true? Or is it a waste of money? I was looking at this kit from Speed Inc (http://www.ls1speed.com/cont.cfm?cid=C0000009), is this a good deal, and or worth the money?

Lids seem to all give about the same power, and the SLP is the cheepest from what I have seen. If any of these "other" lids give any substantial gains over the SLP one, and aren't much more, let me know, but last time I did research on this, those were my findings.
Also, where exactly in home depot do I find the "fernco mod"? Also, what about the "Cold Air" metal inlet that also comes in the above SLP kit from Speed Inc? Is it worth the $120?

well from the track results i have seen from fast toys, their lid is making a few more ponies than an slp, but it really isn't too much of a significant factor altogether.
The fernco you should be able to find in the plumbing section, I think.

i would look around befor you buy a SLP lid i bought one for my t/a and it dont fit very well granetilli, K&N, and there is also different ones Volants are cool looking as well, as for the smooth bellow i got one and i consider it a complete waste of money. If you go with the SLP lid get the cold air kit, comes with blackwing filter, lid, and the cold air stuff.
good luck bro

a lid is a lid to me, its all a matter of which one looks better to you,
maybe the fast toys 85mm might giv you alittle more power, but nothin noticable.
and as for the the bellows, unless your tryin to make the engine look better jus stick with the stock one

I have seen dyno/track times with lid only done to these cars, and it DOES do a difference power wise. I have personally seen 2 tenths gained at the track from 2 good friends of mine.
I'll probably just go with the standard SLP lid since they all seem to gain about the same power level, and I can get an SLP one for the cheepest amount.

Since I was already willing to invest on a lid, I went ahead for a nice looking one and got the MTI clear lid. My track difference was .2 but I also added a cutout at the same time so I can't say it was just the lid that made the difference. The clear lid looks awesome and I plan to get it partially airbrushed with a badass pheonix on there.

The Fast Toys Ram Air kit seems like alot of work for little results. I can see it being worth the money if you are building a track-only car and need every .1 you can get but for a DD or a street car it seems like just getting a lid and a filter is plenty. I like the idea of the MTI lid and getting a custom design on it conde'strans. As for making my ram air hood fully efficient without spending lots of money I am going to figure out a good way to direct the air into the lid with some stuff from Menards and leave it at that.

I got the MTI clear lid. The gains are definitely there, and it has the added bonus of looking awesome. Everyone who looks under my hood says "Oh ****" or something to that effect.
