Recommend me inexpensive oil
I'm way over due for an oil change, but I can't bring myself to drop the ~$50 its been costing me lately to freshen up. I usually buy either Mobil 1 Synthetic or Castrol GC, whichever is available.
Lately I've been running a bit low on funds, and was hoping someone could recommend me some inexpensive synthetic oil that won't be too bad for my LS1. Also, an inexpensive filter would help as well, but I'm always wary about buying FRAM or those other cheap brands.
I've heard Wal-Mart's synthetic oil was pretty good for the money, does anyone know any more about this?
Any suggestions?

YES, Pennzoil Platinum on sale/rebate at Pep Boys (or anywhere else you can find it like this). It comes out to $1.99/quart (some have seen it for $.99/qt. ). You CANNOT do better than that, as it's hard to get decent mineral based, Group 2 oil at those prices nowadays!!
BTW; it also happens to be one of the best 'off the shelf' oils for LSxes anyway.
The Purolator filters are not bad on sale, but I will not mess around when it comes to this and the cheapest I trust is the Wix/NAPA Golds (which are still much less than K&N Golds/Mobil 1s, etc.).

I ended up getting the Pennzoil Platinum that you guys suggested, but it was only ~$2 less than Mobile 1 for 5 quarts, so that really doesn't seem like much of a deal. I saved on the FRAM crap-o-filter which was like $3, as opposed to the $10 Mobile 1 filter, though.
We'll see how it goes.

Valvoline, SuperTech, Quaker State, Pennzoil, Mobil Regular, and MotorCraft oils are all in the price range you are looking for. They are all good oils and will suffice for 3k to 4k mile oil change intervals.
They will work fine. They will not kill your car. They will not harm your car.
Use them and fear not.
It's better to have frequent changes than super-expensive or boutique oils.
