you might want to think about a 6.0 swap.. just as easy and expensive as the 5.3, with more to gain from it.

idk if u can but i dont think a 5.3 swap is worth it i would save a lil more money and get a 6.0 with 0 miles and when u get full bolt ons it will go 12's on the motor with slicks

What those guys said, but when I had my 04 Silverado w/ exhaust, CAI and tune. I could pull down 22 mpg on the Highway. Just something to think about if you aren't taking it to the track.

Swap your 4.8 for a 6.2 out of a GMC Denali.

Main purpose is towing and the4.8 runs 15.97 at the track but put a trailer behind it and it cant get out of its own way.so the main reason for swap is more low end torque.

Well back to the original question @ hand..

They are the same exact motor..diffrent bore or stroke...it will bolt in w/ out any modifications..just a diffrent tune

as for pulling..a diesel is the way to go.....20mpg and can pull a house @ 12mpg

you bought the truck with the wrong engine for low end torque. with a used 6.0 and a 4.10:1 gear ratio you'll be in business. the swap is very simple and cheap. go over to performancetrucks.net. don't ask about b/c you'll probably get flamed cause the subject is beat to death over there. just do a search and you will find every bit of info you need from where to find one to how to install it. good luck!

the only difference in the 4.8 and the 5.3 is the stroke... get a 5.3 crank for CHEAP and build your own... or swap the crank, and have your block bored to a stock 3.989 bore and have yourself an iron 5.7L

You can buy the parts and have it assembled for less than a grand I'd say... and have a NICE running truck. I'm building mine into a 5.7 when it blows if its salvageable.
