Default The Rear...........

Well i thought about all the mods i'm going to get and realized, i dont have a strong enough rear end, and stock gears So what is the best rear end/ gear set up for a roughly 420 hp car that is a daily driver? Any help is great

moser 12 bolt i hear is good and not too big. for a DD i wouldn't go any lower than 3.73's especially if you do a lot of highway driving...

and by "lower" gear, he means "numerically higher".

but if it's an M6 instead of A4, you could go 4.10 without too much loss of mileage....there's plenty of folks getting decent mileage on their 4.10's with their M6's.

with an A4, though, stick with the 3.73's.

I would do your mods and fix the rear when it breaks depending how many miles are on it and if it has been abused or not.

That would be my setup of choice also. But I would wait until the stock one took a dump. If you got the cash order the new one.

Stock rear should hold up ok, as long as you are happy with lauching soft on sticky tires. I usually bust a set of gears in a season. My best last season was an 11.36 @ 119.9 mph. I couldn't hook with 28-11.50/16 ET Streets. Best 60' was a 1.61, I now have more suspension.

This coming season, I'll be going for a 1.4x 60' on a stock 10 bolt.

Are you an M6 or A4? A4, then go with a 12 bolt and some 3.73s. M6, the 9 inch and some 4.11s. I still get almost 25 mpg highway with my heads/cam/4.10s.

Huge difference with you being an auto. If your an M6 do the 9'' and some 4.11's. But of course wait for the old one to break. Who knows it could take everything you put at it.

From what it looks like our almighty GM rear ends just break when ever they want. I mean here someone putting down over 500 Horse and it is still in one piece and yet you see people with almost stock cars blow up rear end after rear end.

If you have cash get a 12 Bolt or a 9" for precaution, but wait till this one blows if you want.

I agree with this statement. I plan on adding a 9" this spring, but I think I'll be running 3.90s instead of 4.11s. Personal preference though.

A4 get 3.73's
M6 get 4.10's.

I'm on a stock 10 bolt with 4.10's 430rwhp, race it and no issues yet. Get a 12 bolt or 9".
