actually...most of us don't. German Castrol is the oil of choice followed by penzoil platinum. Look for posts from "Patman" he's the oil guru on here.

A lot of people switched from mobil 1 when they were bought out. Their oil just isn't as good as it used to be. German castrol and Penzoil Platinum showed some of the best UOA (Used Oil Analysis). You can pick up German Castrol at Autozone.

I use RP 5w-30 in the summer, and 10w-30 in the winter because its thicker. I have been using RP for years, I switched from Mobil 1 and I love it, no leaks, and lower engine temp...although I havent tried the Castrol or PP yet, but RP works great for me so why switch?

you mean you use 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer right? when its cold you want a thinner oil because on startup it is easier to pump so it lubricates sooner.

No, I dont drive my car after November, so it never sees really cold starts, and I dont bring it out until March or April unless the weather is nice

yeah u got that backwards...if u are one of those that switches with the seasons u want a thinner oil in the winter. thicker for summer cause its gonna run a bit hotter.

by the way i use Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic 10-40.

^ yeah you guys are right, I have a couple of boxes of RP I bought in bulk in the garage, I wrote winter on half of the boxes and summer on the others, so I got it backwards, luckily the boxes are labled correctly, but I guess it doesnt really matter anyways, because I hardly ever drive my Camaro..thats why I bought a mustang for a beater

yeah i like the way everyone says "german castrol" like its some fancy new oil.
it was out first and has been called "castrol syntec" from the get go. always made in germany.

but wait...Fast and the Furious 1 was sponsored by Castrol Syntec with Paul Walker presenting it at the beginning of the DVD. and thats an import(RICER) movie. so no way we could have even thought about using that right? lol. it took a recent test up here that someone gave the link to for everyone to use it.

o and by the way i would never put 0w30 in an LS1. that is WAY to thin for me. approaching 6 grand on the tach the bearings have to be hell hot.

Most Castrol is made in Jersey, you have to look specifically for the oil made in Germany which is not easy to find. The oil has a green tint to it. If you read the reports it has the consistency of a 40W which is great for our engines.

Quick Reply: 5w 30 or 10w 30 Oil?
