Default Looking for More Power!!!

Okay here is the story. I have a 1998 camaro m6 130,000miles with an Hooker LT's, ORY, SlP maf. I Would like to do a supercharger, but they cost too much. The STS kit looks cool but from what I researched they have too many problems, and I don't like the idea of having a rear mounted turbo. I don't like nitrous because it's not always there, and I would be to scared to spray it. So that leaves a cam. I have the stock heads now, should I replace them when I put in the cam or just do the cam. Which cam should I go with?

It doesn't have to be a small cam!! Just your stock heads and intake will be your bottle neck. There are cam only cars that are dipping into the high 11's. If you go with a bigger cam you will have to change your valve springs, push rods, etc. Just do your research or Allan @ futralmotor sports and tell him what you have and are trying to do and let him put something together for you.

If you think that a procharger costs too much money, then don't go FI. Also is this your DD? Obvious answer would have to be H/C/I.

Default looking for more power?

money= horsepower.IMO ditch the 130k motor drop in LS-7 crate motor. your wallet would be about 15-17k lighter.

yea, my bank account and school won't let that happen. This is my daily driver. I want to dip into the low 12's with this car. Will I be able to do this and my car still be dependable, and what cost am I looking at. I was also looking at the powerdyne kits. Anyone know were I can pick up one of those.

If I were you just leave the car alone because the car has way to many miles for you just start racing it AND still be your DD. It also seems like you dont have much money at this point in your life so just WAIT IT OUT!!!!!!! Going fast costs money.

Yeah, I would refrain from doing any internal mods to a high mileage motor. If you must, make sure to get a good tune.

Rushin, if I run one of those my car would be just as slow as yours. I'm trying to get faster not slower I just wanted to know the best cam for stock heads that wouldn't push my rpm band out the window cause I have the 3.90 gears. I don't need a financial lesson just need a cam lesson. How will the ls6 or ls7 cam do.

I hope I'm not reading that post in the wrong context... I personally don't think my car is slow. Anyways, I was thinking of going with an LS6 cam with nitrous. It's a stealthy cam with a factory idle, yet much bigger duration and lift. I'm no cam expert by any means, but for a general cheap power adder, the LS6 cam is a good choice. You will definitely need to change the springs though, but stock LS6 springs with low miles will do alright.

If I were you I would also get rid of the slp maf and put the stock one back on for a better tune. Just my opinion

i don't if i would be comfortable boosting a car with that that many miles. i would leave it as is and wait until you have the money and replace the engine with say a 402 or a 408. just a thought.

H/C/I = POWER

I have 111k on my 98 LS1, with the rgith parts, builder and tuner, you will get reliable power that still leaves you with decent MPG and lots of power and torque.

Good Luck

On second thought, I wonder if anyone's ever installed one of those on an LSX motor in general.
