Default Burnout=Rev Limiter

Ok this is a very newb question but... How bad is it to actually hit the rev limiter in 1st while doing a burn out. I try to not make a habit of it but it has happen a few times. Just curious as to if its even really that bad. Its not like I hold it there its just for a half second or so. I usually stop the burn out when it hits it or before.

It's not bad, thats it doing it's job.
If your rev limiter was set way too high and you were floating valves that would be a problem.

x2 rev limiter is there for a reason to protect your engine from people like you.

you could bend pushrods from bumping the limiter. its not awful.

Do 2nd gear burnouts w/ a little less throttle input. Plus, the limiter is there for a reason. If you bend a pushrod at 6200 rpm, you have more issues than hitting the rev limiter.

Don't just blindly hold the throttle to the floor. Manipulate it and make use of that mid-range torque.

time to let off the damn gas before getting too excited.

the limiter is there for a reason, but that doesn't mean you wont hurt the motor when you hit the limiter all the time, it will eventually take its toll

x2 to what everyone else said about the second gear burnouts and trying your best not to hit the limiter. It's kind of like an airbag; is it there to prevent major problems when you screw up? Yes. Will it always do it's job? No.

Only do 2nd gear burnouts if you have a low gear and good clutch/pressure plate. Also, you don't need that many rpms on a burnout. Just stay above the torque peak and hold the rpm's steady.

I am not one to do burn outs, but every now and then I will break loose in 1st and bang it off the rev limiter. That equated to a push rod with a 45 degree bend in it. Not a big deal to fix, but you could hurt alot of other things. I wouldnt be taking the revs too high on a stock valvetrain if I could help it.

If you want to do a good burnout control the gas to milk it out.
You can bang the rev limiter in first and second and hit third and bog down in ten feet, or
you can make first gear last forever just by driving smart
reving to 6200 alot isnt good either the rev limiter is made to prevent damage from short high rev bursts
ricers are the ones who drive around on the rev limiter all day

ok so it sounds like what I was thinking is true. ok to do it at times but not make a habit of it. Can I do a second gear burnout like a first gear? In first I usually just bring the rpms up a little then let the clutch out quickly (not dumping it). Could I do this in second or will I just need to dump it?

You really should start in 1st with the stock gear ratio and stock clutch. Just quickly shift into 2nd once you get through first. This will probably take some practice though. I can't do it personally, but i have seen a few buddys do it.
