Is it worth Buying 99 Camaro SS??
Hi everybody,
Im pretty new to the forum but I have a general question for discussion.
I am looking at a 99 Camaro SS for sale in my area but I cannot decide whether it would be a good idea to purchase or not. The car only has about 45k miles on it and it is completely stock and un-modified. This Camaro was definitely never beaten on as evident by the overall excellent condition, this car might as well be new it is so nice. It has an LS1 and a t56 6 speed, t-tops, leather, and SS pkg. As far as I can tell, there are no leaks or noises indicating engine or transmission issues and the Carfax report checks out ok. The dealer is asking approx $15k for the car which seems fair given the condition and feature combination.
The BIG QUESTION, what does everyone think will happen to the value of the last gen Camaro's once the new '09 Camaro is released early next year? I really want to buy this 99 camaro (because I am too impatient to wait any longer for the '09) but I dont want to pay top dollar for it today for it to be worth half of that after the new Camaro is released. Also, would you buy this car or wait for the '09
Obviously this is impossible to predict, but I am just curious what some of you might think about it.

It's not impossible at all to predict. They aren't going to be worth as much, simple as that.
I wouldn't pay that for an fbody myself. Hell man, just buy you a basic Z28 or something for a few thousand now (they can be had cheap!) and enjoy it until the release of that new ugly pile err I mean Camaro and buy it.

So the new camaro is coming out... So what! If you like the 98-02 style better, then get it. I think it's not worth buying a new camaro because the 1st year has most of the problems... Plus i am not so hyped over the 400(ish) hp ls2, they should go with the ls3. And i think soon the new camaro will end up like mustangs. Everyone will have one. The price seems fair for that camaro, but i would try to go lower on a price. I know for sure that they can...

The fact that you are looking at the car means it has value. The "new Camaro" is an unknown at this point.
The low mileage car will always loose value as you rackup miles on it. So what! Are you making an investment or buying a car to drive.
As always buy what you want and forget about the herd.

Sounds like an OK deal... I just bought an 02 SS because I couldnt wait for the 09 (and proboably couldnt afford it either, just a college kid here). Maybe work them down 1-2K and that would be saweeeeet. This is just based of my newb experience

Well I know for a fact that they dealerships buy camaros (00-02) for 8-11k with 40-65k miles. So i'd offer them 13k. If your a young kid they won't budge because they know you'll buy it anyways, just walk away for a week and come back.

Have you looked at the for sale section in the forum? You can get some good deals, find out about the previous owner, read their previous post to find out what the car went through plus compare it to other similiar models in price.
I just picked up one myself off the board, got a great deal I think.

Cars are horrible investments unless you never drive them and sit on them for years. 99 Z28/SSs aren't all that rare in 2008 and 45k miles isn't all that low really- it's pretty low but not too unheard of. $15k is too high for that car. You can find a nice LS1 car for half that much.

Did you get permission to copy that..LOL
It breaks down even further to each color and how many were produced as well as hard tops and t-tops. There were around 626 Black T-top SS' in 99 iirc. But even if you look at the production number as a whole 4,829 unit is not many. Take a percantage of that, not sure of what it woud be but there are some that are non-existent right now so the number is even less. Is it a rare car..no,. But its not a mass produced car either. Value is always going to be subjective.
But still 15k for that car is too much by about 5k IMO.

I just paid $6300 for an 01 Z28 with 95K on it. Its in really nice condition.I could have bought others for less but wanted an unmolested car to drive until the new Camaro is out.I looked at a lot of them in the 3k-5k range. Not hard to find really.
