Default 440 LS7 and some spray!

What do you guys think about spraying a 440 with a 4.130 bore and a 4.100 stroke. Seems like lots of people and builders are saying not to spray them because the piston pin is moved up close to the top of the piston, and something about the wall thickness.
I would like to build a 440 and spray a 150 to 200 wetshot at the track only.
Can someone clear this up for me? Anyone doing it? Results also, but not necessary.

Thanks
-Kenny

Depending on what piston/ring pack was used you can spray a 4.10 stroke motor, just not with alot. A 150 would be fine, but tune up needs to be spot on as the piston gets thin on the longer stroke stuff. Mine is a 4.070 bore 4.100 stroke built by HKE and will see a lil spray.

I will be using Wiseco pistons. I am not sure about the rings.
I am going to have Vengeance or LME build my motor. Still deciding out of the two.

Anyone Else?

That is almost exactly what I have. Mine is 4.125 bore and 4.100 stroke. Don't worry about that crap about the pin too close to the top of the piston. The key to ANY nitrous engine is getting the tune right. Your pistons won't fail because of the pin location, they will fail when introduced to detonation. I spray mine 150-200-250 no problem. I broke some rings last year, but it was my fault. I had too much timing and still ran it hard... my fault. Get the ring end gap right, piston/cyl wall clearance right and a good set of rings and you will be good. What rod length you looking at?

That's what i was thinking because usually you would melt something before you broke the top of the piston or pin.

I am not sure, i am leaving that up to the builder. I do know i will be using Callies Rods. I heard something about 6.125, but i could have mstaken that.

What about the LS7 wall thickness. It will be a 4.130 bore.

I have a 6.200 rod. Wall thickness is good at 4.130.

Use Vengeance or HKE for the motor build. Both know what it takes to make your combo work.

im sure it will be ok. i myself decided on a 4" stroke upon the advice of several engine builders because i wasnt sure how much i wanted to spray it and that seemed a safer route. i thought you were doing a turbo?

HKE is a JOKE! Three called messages, and five emails never responded. Even if they do respond they wont be getting my busniess because of that.

I was thinking of turbo with an S480 & 408, but i did run into transmission problems i wanted to stay A4 and not bang out the trans tunnel...

Most shops will not stand behind a motor that big on spray I think thats alot of the reason not too many are building them. I personally would not spray a 427 or larger. Some ppl may not remember the small block 400 with no water jackets between cylinders. They broke often. Whenever you have cylinders touching(or close to touching) You will have heat issues and thats what takes the rings out most of the time.

You are correct that some pistons are not rated to handle much nitrous. The issue with having the pin high up is that normaly the piston rings are as well. Just a small amount of detonation with a high HP application on Nitrous could crush the ring landing. So like said above you could spray something like 150 and bo ok. I would not spray alot and the tune does need to be correct..
